Job description

Responsible for managing the design for commercialization aspects of new product development projects, including driving collaboration of internal and external cross-functional teams.

Acts as liaison between engineering, marketing, manufacturing, RA/QA and sales management for the purpose of scheduling new projects, driving timely product launches, budgeting resources and reporting on progress of several projects that are simultaneously being prepared for commercialization.

Engages with surgeons in conjunction with engineering, marketing, manufacturing, RA/QA and sales management on an as-needed basis, to support innovative commercialization efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Scheduling, budgeting, monitoring, tracking of assigned new projects in co-ordination with marketing, engineering, manufacturing, RA/QA
  • Ensures Design Control requirements are met on the project. Owns the Design History File (DHF).
  • Ensures a Quality Focus and fulfillment of Customer Needs
  • Participate in User Needs Assessment processes, VOC, interact with surgeons as needed, responsible to convert User Needs and VOC into Engineering Design Inputs and Engineering Performance Specifications for the Design Team
  • Schedule and conduct Engineering Design Reviews, Vendor Review Meetings and other cross-functional meetings as needed. Responsible to ensure Design Verifications (Tolerance Analysis, Simulations, Stress Analysis, Test Plans/Protocols, Test Fixtures, Testing, Reports, Summaries) as needed.
  • Ensure completion of Design Outputs (Models, Rapid Prototypes, Drawings, Simulations, Technical Reports, Study Reports)
  • Responsible for completion of Prototype Instrumentation & Implants for Validation Labs, support Validation Lab activity, interface with customers to assess validity of prototypes, document & ensure completion post validation lab changes based on lab inputs
  • Guide preparation of design specification documents for marketing, provide marketing with information as needed to create promotional material
  • Assist in revising existing R&D Policies, Procedures and Processes.
  • Participates in writing new procedures where appropriate.
Skills
  • Proven ability to manage projects involving resources in multiple locations. Well-versed with project management tools, including MS-Project and MS-Excel.
  • Ability to effectively lead, direct, coach and motivate a project team in a highly matrixed organization
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, communication skills, both written and verbal, diplomatic and tactful
  • High level of technical competence to formulate appropriate development strategies and tactics for each project and to uncover weaknesses in performance and reliability test data.
  • Strong design talent, excellent engineering fundamentals, well versed with engineering analyses, analytical ability for problem solving
  • Good understanding of mechanical testing, ability to read/interpret test standards and relevant literature, guide formulation of test protocols, design and manufacture test fixtures and rigs, set pass/fail criteria based on sound understanding of requirements, analyse and interpret test results, correlate to clinical product performance.
