Job summary

Better Cotton Initiative seeks a Product Designer in Delhi or Ahmedabad, with a hybrid work setup and occasional international travel. You will shape digital products for farmers, field teams, supply-chain partners, and internal teams, turning complex workflows into intuitive experiences and owning the design system.

You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, and product teams to ensure usability, accessibility, and consistency across platforms while advancing the organisation's mission

Qualifications

• Degree in Design, HCI, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years designing and launching digital products where value is shown.
• Experience designing web/mobile products from discovery to implementation.
• Experience creating and evolving scalable design systems.
• Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
• Experience using AI tools across design processes.
• Experience with agriculture, field operations, or supply chains is a plus.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

About The Job

The Product Designer shapes how Better Cotton's digital products look, feel, and work for farmers, field teams, supply-chain partners, and internal teams. The role turns complex workflows into simple, intuitive product experiences and owns the shared design system that raises quality, improves consistency, and helps the wider Digital Products team move faster. The Product Designer directly strengthens the usability and coherence of Better Cotton's product ecosystem.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing GHG emissions from cotton production by half, big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for :

• Conduct research with users and internal teams to understand workflows, constraints, and real operating conditions.
• Challenge unnecessary complexity and helping the team identify the simplest valuable solution.
• Turn complex processes into clear end-to-end journeys, information architecture, and product interactions, using prototypes to explore, communicate, and test solutions quickly.
• Work with Product Engineers to balance user needs, technical constraints, and organisational priorities.
• Establish and maintain the shared design system — components, patterns, tokens, and interaction standards — ensuring it supports consistency across different products, languages, and operating contexts.
• Conduct usability testing and use feedback and product data to improve designs, reviewing implemented products for usability, accessibility, and consistency, and resolving issues directly with engineers.
• Use AI and automation to improve research synthesis, prototyping, documentation, and design-system quality, while applying strong judgement to the quality of the outcome.
• Work collaboratively with the line manager to set clear, outcome-based objectives that align with function-wide and organisational goals.
• Take ownership of agreed objectives, ensuring alignment with team priorities and performance expectations.

Experience

the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

Essential

• Degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 5+ years of relevant experience, with a strong track record of designing and launching digital products that users value and rely on; evidence of judgement, breadth, and delivered product quality matters more than tenure.
• Experience designing complex web or mobile products from early exploration through implementation, and simplifying complicated workflows into clear, intuitive experiences.
• Experience creating, maintaining, and evolving scalable design systems.
• Experience conducting user research and usability testing, and using prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate product decisions.
• Experience using AI tools across research, ideation, prototyping, testing, or design operations.
• Experience with agriculture, field operations, enterprise products, supply chains, multilingual interfaces, or products for users with varying digital literacy is valuable.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

Desirable

• Advanced proficiency in Hindi, Urdu, Swahili, or other relevant languages would be an advantage.
• Expert fluency in Figma and FigJam, including advanced prototyping, component libraries, variables, and design-system management.
• Experience defining and documenting reusable components, tokens, interaction patterns, and accessibility standards.
• Confidence creating both low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes using Figma and complementary prototyping tools.
• Experience with AI-enabled research, interface-generation, and prototyping tools, with the judgement to evaluate and refine their outputs.
• Familiarity with tools for user interviews, research synthesis, usability testing, and product analytics.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and component-based development in frameworks such as React.
