Job summary

Cummins Inc. is seeking a Product Design Technician – Level I to support product development by creating, modifying, and maintaining precise engineering drawings and 3D CAD models in line with Cummins and global standards.

You will contribute to product quality, configuration management, and engineering change processes while aiding Right First Time and On-Time Delivery goals, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and participating in formal training to grow technical capability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent in a relevant STEM field is required.
• Associate degree, Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
• Participation in or completion of a recognized apprenticeship or technical training preferred.
• Export control or sanctions regulations compliance may be required.

Responsibilities

• Create, modify, and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product specifications.
• Apply GD&T and established design practices to ensure model and drawing quality.
• Develop product specifications including BOMs, drawings, and documentation.
• Use CAD data management and PLM systems to manage configuration control and changes.
• Support configuration and change management by processing work requests and maintaining documentation.
• Adhere to engineering standards to ensure quality, manufacturability, and compliance.
• Participate in drawing quality reviews, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other teams to resolve design issues.
• Contribute to RFT and OTD objectives by delivering accurate documentation on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, modify, and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product specifications using approved CAD tools and engineering standards.
• Ensure model and drawing quality by applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and established design practices.
• Develop complete product specifications, including engineering bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and associated documentation.
• Utilize CAD data management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to manage configuration control, document security, version control, and engineering change activities.
• Support product configuration and change management processes by processing engineering work requests and maintaining accurate product documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Apply Cummins, industry, national, and international engineering standards to ensure product quality, manufacturability, and compliance.
• Participate in drawing quality reviews, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering documentation and design processes.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional teams to resolve design issues and support product development activities.
• Support Right First Time (RFT) and On-Time Delivery (OTD) objectives by delivering accurate engineering documentation within agreed timelines.
• Participate in formal technical training, apprenticeship, or developmental programs to strengthen product design and engineering capabilities.

Qualifications

Skills And Experience Needed

• Some experience or foundational knowledge in mechanical design, CAD modeling, engineering drafting, or product design gained through education, internships, apprenticeships, vocational training, or professional experience.
• Proficiency in Creo or similar CAD software for creating and modifying 3D models and engineering drawings.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, engineering drawings, and product design principles.
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing standards.
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Windchill and engineering configuration management processes is preferred.
• Understanding of engineering change management, product specifications, and engineering documentation practices.
• Ability to interpret engineering requirements and collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
