Job summary

Apple Inc. in India is seeking a mechanical design engineer with strong experience in consumer electronics to lead projects and build prototypes for validation. The role requires close collaboration with vendors in Asia and internal teams, and on-site work at contract manufacturers in India to scale the product.

You will drive impactful design solutions, balance priorities, and apply DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and FEA. Travel ~20%+, familiarity with OLED/LCD and antenna integration are a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of demonstrated mechanical design experience, preferably in consumer electronics.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Experience in plastic and metal part design, material selection.
• Experience in DFM and DFA, tolerance analysis and geometric tolerancing for high-volume manufacturing.
• Strong communication of designs and concepts.
• Experience with OLED/LCD, batteries, sensing modules, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects and deliver prototypes for design validation.
• Drive design solutions balancing multiple priorities on tight schedules.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers and internal teams to implement and scale products.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about engineering and thrives on innovation to help build the next generation of the world’s most innovative mobile devices. This role is for someone with strong mechanical design skills, an ability to lead projects in a multi-functional setting, and excellent communication skills with both vendors within Asia and internal teams at Apple. The role will require the ability to deliver outstanding design solutions while balancing multiple priorities on demanding schedules.You will be responsible for building prototypes for design validation and driving failure analysis. As designs mature, you will also primarily work on-site at contract manufacturers within India to implement and integrate iPhones to enable the product at scale.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3+ years of demonstrated ability in mechanical design (preferably consumer electronics products)
• Bachelor's with a specialisation in Mechanical/Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering
• Demonstrated ability in plastic and metal part design, including material selection
• Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing, with a focus on high-volume manufacturing
• Experience with technical graphical communication of concepts, ideas, and solutions
• Experience with component modules (OLED/LCD, batteries, sensing, acoustic, camera modules, etc.)
• Integration of wireless antenna (Cellular, GPS, WiFi, BT) into mechanical enclosures, a huge plus
• Integration of electrical subsystems (OLED/LCD, sensing, microphone, speaker, receiver, camera)
• Experience with 3D CAD modelling systems and workflow
• Solid understanding of FEA (stress analysis)
• Ability to travel internationally (20%+)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's/PhD degree with a specialisation in Mechanical/Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering
• Experience working with contract manufacturers, highly desirable
• Design of highly cosmetic enclosures with liquid and dust ingress protection, a huge plus
• Siemens NX proficiency preferred
• Passion for making great products and solving tough design problems
