Job summary

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) seeks an Site EHSLead to guide Environmental, Health & Safety across a major Green Hydrogen project. You will lead governance across EPC contractors, ensuring strict safety controls, robust incident investigations, and KPI-driven safety performance from construction through commissioning.

You will implement process safety management for critical systems, oversee high-risk activities, and drive the site’s EHS management systems toward ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance,

Responsibilities

• Lead EHS governance across EPC contractors and ensure compliance with site safety protocols.
• Oversee high-risk activities such as heavy lifting, working at heights, scaffolding, excavation and confined space entry.
• Drive Safety induction, training, incident reporting, investigations, RCA, audits and KPI tracking.
• Lead PSM implementation for electrolyser stacks, EPU, hydrogen & oxygen systems and related commissioning activities.
• Manage high-risk commissioning tasks including electrical energization, pressure testing, purging and inerting.
• Ensure strict PTW and LOTO compliance during all phases of the project.
• Develop and implement ISO 14001 and ISO 45001-based EHS management systems across the site.
• Manage process safety risks related to hydrogen, oxygen handling, corrosive electrolytes and water treatment chemicals.
• Coordinate regulatory liaison with SPCB, PESO and other authorities.
• Drive long-term safety culture transformation and continuous improvement programs.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

The Site EHSLead will be responsible for leading and managing all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) aspects of a large-scale Green Hydrogen project. The role spans across construction, commissioning, and operational readiness, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and establishing a strong safety culture aligned with global standards. Site EHSLead shall closely work with Site Construction Manager and Head-EHSto implement EHS& Sustainability initiatives in the project site.

Key Responsibilities

Construction phase

Lead EHSgovernance across multiple EPC contractors, ensuring strict adherence to site safetyprotocols.Manage safety in high-density manpower environments with strong contractor control andsupervision.

Oversee critical high-risk activities:Heavy lifting & rigging, Working at heights & scaffolding, Excavation & confined space entry.

Drive implementation of Safety induction & training programs, Incident reporting, investigation & RCA, Safety audits, inspections, and KPIs.

Commissioning Phase

Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation across all systems. Conduct & lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)forElectrolyser Stacks, Gas separation & Purification units (EPU), Hydrogen & Oxygen Compression & storage systems.

Oversee high-risk commissioning activities - Electrical energization (HT/LT systems), Pressure & leak testing (pneumatic/hydro), Nitrogen purging and inerting.

Ensure strict compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) systems and Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.

Operations Readiness Phase

Develop and implement site-wide EHSManagement Systems -ISO 14001 (Environmental) andISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).

Manage process safety risks involving: Hydrogen (flammability/explosion risks), Oxygen handling, Corrosive electrolytes (KOH) and Water treatment chemicals.

Ensure compliance and regulatory liaison with: State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), PESO (Chief Controller of Explosives)

Drive long-term safety culture transformation and continuous improvement programs.
