Job summary

  • Provide daily and periodic monitoring of biodiesel and renewable diesel units for stability and efficiency.
  • Analyze feedstock variability, catalyst performance, and product quality parameters.
  • Develop dashboards and analytics for process monitoring and decision-making.
  • Support mass and energy balances, yield accounting, and performance trending.
  • Contribute to process safety reviews, MOC, and incident investigations as needed.

About the position

The Specialty Operations Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel (BD/RD) Process Monitoring and Optimization Engineer is a member of the Facilities Process Engineering organization within Chevron ENGINE. This role provides process monitoring, optimization, and technical assurance support focused on biodiesel and renewable diesel process units, including feedstock handling, reaction systems, separation, treating, product upgrading, and utilities interfaces. The engineer plays a critical role in supporting safe, reliable, and efficient production of renewable fuels through proactive monitoring, analysis, and optimization of complex process systems.

Engineers will work closely with Operations, Process Engineering, Digital, Control Systems, Maintenance, and Environmental teams to deliver work priorities including routine process monitoring, yield and energy optimization, operating envelope assurance, data quality validation, and engineering analysis. Engineers will interface directly with Chevron biodiesel and renewable diesel assets to provide technical ownership and remote support for monitoring tools, methodologies, and performance insights.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide daily and periodic monitoring of biodiesel and renewable diesel process units, with emphasis on process stability, yields, operating efficiency, and constraint management.
  • Monitor and analyze key process parameters associated with feedstock variability, catalyst performance, reaction severity, separation efficiency, and product quality.
  • Develop, maintain, and standardize process monitoring methodologies, dashboards, and analytics to ensure consistent application across biodiesel and renewable diesel facilities.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support mass and energy balances, yield accounting, loss identification, and process performance trending.
  • Develop and maintain process monitoring and data analytics tools (e.g., PI, SEEQ, Power BI or similar) to support operational decision-making and optimization.
  • Identify and develop process improvement and digital enablement opportunities to enhance throughput, yield, energy efficiency, and operability.
  • Monitor process trends and operating conditions to support continuous improvement, early issue detection, and abnormal situation prevention.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Process Engineering teams to address reliability risks, operability challenges, and performance gaps.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting process upsets, performance deviations, control issues, and data anomalies.
  • Support audits, technical reviews, and internal assurance activities related to process performance, monitoring practices, and data integrity.
  • Provide analytical and technical input for incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development related to biodiesel or renewable diesel operations.
  • Support integrity operating window (IOW) monitoring related to critical process parameters, equipment limits, and safe operating envelopes.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, management of change (MOC), and process safety reviews with a focus on operability, safeguards, and loss prevention.
  • Constraint management: proactive monitoring to identify constraints as early as possible. Quantify impact, develop interim mitigations, EOR projections, and turnaround scope justification.
  • Key equipment monitoring: single points of failure, for example H2 compressors, HI Charge Pump, etc. Develop heat exchanger monitoring dashboards in HexMon-Pi.
  • Update, validate, and issue Daily Production Report (DPR)- weekly and on the 1st of the month.
  • Monitor and track utility, i.e. steam, natural gas, fuel gas, nitrogen, and hydrogen usage.
  • Provide environmental release
