Job summary

Chevron ENGINE's Automation Systems Engineer role in Bengaluru, India supports the life cycle of automation projects across shale and tight onshore assets. You will work on automation philosophy, control narratives, architecture design, data flows, and system integration, while assisting with HMI design and information risk compliance.

The position emphasizes on-site facility experience and a relevant B.E./B.Tech.

Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum on-site facility experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in instrumentation or electrical engineering (B.E./B.Tech.).
  • Configuration experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley or Emerson PAC) and AVEVA System Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end support for Automation Systems projects from design to completion.
  • Assist in automation philosophy, control narratives, architecture design and data flows.
  • Support change management for instrumentation, controls and IT design packages.
  • Utilize design tools and databases and offer technical guidance on inquiries.
  • Improve Automation Engineering tools and work processes.

The Automation Systems Engineer is part of Chevron’s ENGINE Projects Design Engineering team providing support throughout the lifecycle of Automation System projects in Chevron's Shale and Tight onshore assets. This includes support for automation systems design, architectures, control narratives, data flows, and development and maintenance of control systems tools. The Projects Facilities Engineering team provides remote technical support for operations, turnaround scope development, greenfield and brownfield projects as well as ongoing compliance activities.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize Chevron and Industry Engineering Standards
  • Project Lifecycle Support: Provide end-to-end support for Automation Systems projects, from initial design through to implementation and completion – automation philosophy, control narratives, architecture design, data flow, systems integration, human machine interface (HMI) design, and information risk compliance.
  • Design and Implementation: Assist in the design and implementation of Automation and Control Systems, ensuring compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Change Management: Support the management of change process for instrumentation, controls and IT design packages and associated changes.
  • Documentation and Tools: Utilize inventory databases, and design tools.
  • Provide guidance for technical inquiries, issue technical recommendations, provide equipment and system troubleshooting, improve Automation Engineering tools and support the development and improvement of Automation Engineering work processes.
Required Qualifications
  • 3 years minimum on-site facility experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in instrumentation or electrical engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university
  • Configuration experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen-Bradley or Emerson PAC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (AVEVA System Platform)
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience in an Automation Systems role with an owner operator, control systems supplier or systems integrator
  • Experience executing greenfield and/or brownfield projects in onshore, upstream, oil and gas facilities
