Archean Chemical Industries Ltd. in Jhagadia invites applications for a Process Engineer in the Process Department.

You will translate lab routes into scalable, robust commercial processes, owning scale-up and technology transfer to the plant. The role requires 5-7 years of experience in process development and scale-up, with hands-on exposure to kilo-lab and pilot plant operations, and a solid footing in process safety, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Chemical Engineering is required.
• 5-7 years of experience in process development and scale-up, preferably in specialty or agrochemical intermediates.
• Hands-on experience in multi-step organic synthesis and process implementation at lab, pilot, and commercial scale.
• Experience in kilo lab and pilot plant trials through to commercial batches.

Responsibilities

• Own process scale-up from laboratory to kilo lab, pilot plant and commercial production.
• Support R&D during process development and translate lab data into process parameters.
• Prepare process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and heat and mass balances.
• Define critical process parameters and isolation strategy for transfer to plant.
• Operate and specify automated reactors, filters, dryers and distillation systems.
• Drive process optimisation for yield, efficiency and cost reduction.
• Conduct solvent recovery studies and batch validation activities.
• Conduct HAZOP and risk assessments for scale-up and plant commissioning.
• Prepare and document technology transfer packages for production plants.
• Execute scale-up batches in plant with close monitoring for timely and safe execution.
• Coordinate across cross-functional teams including Analytical, Pilot Plant, Technology Transfer, Production and EHS.

Job Purpose

To translate laboratory routes into robust commercial processes, owning scale-up from bench through kilo lab and pilot plant to commercial production, including process documentation, yield and consumption optimisation, safety readiness and technology transfer to plant.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Scale-Up Execution: Own process scale-up from laboratory to kilo lab and pilot plant, and on to commercial production.
• R&D Interface: Support R&D during process development and translate laboratory data into defined process parameters.
• Process Documentation: Prepare process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and heat and mass balances.
• Process Parameter Definition: Define critical process parameters and isolation strategy for transfer to plant.
• Equipment Operation & Specification: Operate and specify automated reactors, filters, dryers and distillation systems.
• Yield & Cost Optimisation: Drive process optimisation for yield, efficiency and cost reduction.
• Solvent Recovery & Batch Validation: Conduct solvent recovery studies and batch validation activities.
• Process Safety: Conduct HAZOP and risk assessments, and analyse process safety parameters for scale-up and plant commissioning.
• Technology Transfer: Prepare and document technical packages for technology transfer to commercial production plants.
• Plant Batch Execution: Execute scale-up batches in plant with close monitoring to ensure timely and safe execution.
• Cross Functional Coordination: Coordinate across cross-functional teams including Analytical, Pilot Plant, Technology Transfer, Production and EHS.

Educational Qualification & Experience

• Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: 57 years of experience in process development and scale-up, preferable in specialty chemicals, fine chemicals, API or agrochemical intermediates.
• Hands‑on experience in multi‑step organic synthesis and process implementation at lab, pilot plant and commercial scale.
• Experience in executing kilo lab and pilot plant trials through to commercial batches.
• Experience in a CDMO, API or specialty chemicals manufacturing environment preferred.

Required Skills & Competencies

A. Technical & Functional Skills

• Sound knowledge of batch process chemistry and plant operations.
• Practical experience in handling hazardous chemicals and high‑energy processes.
• Understanding of P&IDs, MOC selection and process safety protocols.
• Working knowledge of distillation, filtration, drying and solvent recovery systems.
• Process calculations including heat transfer, mass transfer and reaction kinetics.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint; exposure to SAP or similar ERP preferred.

B. Scale-Up & Technology Transfer Skills

• Scale-up planning and execution from laboratory to commercial scale.
• Preparation of PFDs, P&IDs and heat and mass balances.
• Yield, solvent recovery and utility consumption optimisation.
• HAZOP, risk assessment and process hazard identification.
• Technology transfer documentation and plant commissioning support.

• Reduction in process deviations during early commercial batches.
