The Leading Newspaper is seeking an experienced Press Operator to manage web offset printing operations. You will mount printing plates, load newsprint rolls, and balance ink and water while maintaining high-speed press performance.

Daily duties include color control, trouble-shooting paper jams, and coordinating with prepress staff to meet overnight publication deadlines. A background in printing technology and hands-on press experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with web-offset or newspaper printing presses is required.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and overtime.
• Diploma/ITI or apprenticeship in printing technology is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Mount and lock printing plates, load newsprint, and fill ink systems.

Role & responsibilities

• Press Setup & Preparation: Mount and lock printing plates, load large rolls of newsprint (web paper), and fill ink ducts or fountain solutions.
• Machine Operation: Run high-speed web offset presses, adjusting paper tension, speed, side/circumferential register (alignment), and ink-to-water balance on the fly.
• Quality Control: Continuously inspect running copies for color accuracy, smudging, misalignment, or torn pages, making immediate adjustments to prevent paper waste.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Clear paper jams, replace worn rollers or blankets, oil moving parts, and perform scheduled pre- and post-run cleanups.
• Team Coordination: Work closely with prepress technicians, paper handlers, and press helpers to meet strict overnight and early-morning publication deadlines.
• Record Keeping: Log paper usage, ink consumption, machine downtime, and maintenance reports.

Required skills & knowledge

• Technical Proficiency: Understanding of offset lithography printing processes, colour theory, and registration controls.
• Safety working with safety policies and Risk assessment and resolution of printing related sections.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to diagnose mechanical or feed issues quickly under tight time pressure.
• Physical Stamina: Capacity to stand for long shifts, bend, lift heavy rolls or plates, and work in noisy industrial press room environments.
• Attention to Detail: High visual acuity to catch subtle print flaws, ink variations, or registration slips.
• Job rotation candidate must be ready relocate to our other printing unit.

Education & Experience

• A high school diploma, 10th/12th pass, or ITI/OJT Holder, vocational certificate in printing technology.
• Apprenticeship Training certificate holder.
• Diploma in Printing Technology / B. Tech in Printing
• 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience working on web-offset or newspaper printing presses (often starting as a helper or assistant printer).
• Willingness to learn new printing technologies and processes as they arise.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
