Job summary

Friends Color Images Pvt Ltd in Chennai is seeking a seasoned Plant Head to lead the printing plant operations. You will oversee production, quality, maintenance, manpower planning, and cost management to deliver targets on time.

You will drive safety, compliance and inventory, while building a capable team and coordinating with senior management across locations. 6 days/week work at the Chennai plant is expected.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant experience in the printing industry.
• Strong experience in production, quality, maintenance, manpower and cost management.
• Experience in plant manpower planning and recruitment.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Must be familiar with printing software tools.
• Ability to independently manage a plant and take operational decisions.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Must be comfortable communicating in Tamil, English and Hindi.

Responsibilities

• Take complete ownership of day-to-day plant operations and overall performance.
• Ensure production targets are achieved within defined timelines and quality standards.
• Improve machine utilization, productivity and efficiency while controlling wastage and operating costs.
• Ensure timely preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize machine downtime.
• Manage supervisors, engineers, operators, technicians and other plant staff across shifts.
• Recruit the plant staff, including supervisors, engineers, operators and technicians.
• Monitor employee performance, attendance, discipline and adherence to plant policies and procedures.
• Ensure adherence to safety and compliance requirements.
• Ensure availability of materials and timely dispatch of finished goods.
• Ensure all billing is done within the agreed timeline.
• Review production, quality, downtime, manpower, wastage and other plant metrics with management.
• Proactively identify operational issues and resolve them without impacting production or delivery commitments.
• Build a strong plant team and develop supervisors and leads.

Broad Function:

As Plant Head, you will be responsible for the overall management and performance of FCI’s printing plant located at Chennai.

The role requires complete ownership of plant operations including production, quality, maintenance, monthly billing, manpower planning, staff recruitment, productivity, wastage control, cost management, safety, compliance, inventory, dispatch and overall operational efficiency.

The Plant Head will be expected to independently lead the plant, ensure achievement of production and quality targets, maintain strong process discipline, build a capable plant team and work closely with senior management and support functions.

Since the role requires regular interaction with local employees as well as teams and management across locations, the candidate must be comfortable communicating in Tamil, English and Hindi.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Plant Operations: Take complete ownership of day-to-day plant operations and overall performance.
• Production & Quality: Ensure production targets are achieved within defined timelines and quality standards.
• Productivity & Cost Control: Improve machine utilization, productivity and efficiency while controlling wastage and operating costs.
• Maintenance: Ensure timely preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize machine downtime.
• Manpower Management: Manage supervisors, engineers, operators, technicians and other plant staff across shifts.
• Recruitment: Do the recruitment and selection of plant staff, including supervisors, engineers, operators and technicians.
• Performance & Discipline: Monitor employee performance, attendance, discipline and adherence to plant policies and procedures.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable safety, statutory, labour and plant compliance requirements.
• Inventory & Dispatch: Ensure availability of required materials and timely dispatch of finished goods.
• Monthing Billing: Ensure all work billing is done with the agreed timeline.
• MIS & Reporting: Review production, quality, downtime, manpower, wastage and other key plant metrics and share regular updates with management.
• Problem Resolution: Proactively identify operational issues and ensure timely resolution without impacting production or delivery commitments.
• Team Development: Build a strong and accountable plant team and develop supervisors and functional leads.

Requirements

Desired Candidate:

• 10+ years of relevant experience in the printing industry.
• Strong experience in production, quality, maintenance, manpower and cost management.
• Experience in plant manpower planning and recruitment.

• Must be familiar with printing software tools.

• B.Tech / Diploma in Printing Technology, Mechanical, Production or a relevant discipline.
• Prior experience in independently managing a plant or large manufacturing unit.
• Comfortable working 6 days a week from the Chennai plant.
• Tamil, English and Hindi proficiency is mandatory.
