Job summary

Volante Technologies in India seeks a Senior Java Developer with hands-on enterprise fintech experience. You will build scalable, secure payment integrations, design mission-critical systems, and contribute across the full SDLC while adopting AI-enabled solutions.

The role spans code, design, testing, and deployment in a Bank/Fintech context. You will work with ISO 20022, SWIFT, SEPA standards and modern containers, CI/CD, and observability tools.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years of Java/JEE development with core Java, multithreading, performance tuning.
• Strong Spring ecosystem knowledge and messaging systems in secure HA environments.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, SSL/TLS and secure data handling.

Responsibilities

• Participate in requirement-gathering and assess technical feasibility, including AI-enabled features.
• Own design and solutioning for modules within a sprint, leveraging AI for design and testing.
• Lead technical design sessions and reviews to align with architectural standards.
• Deliver secure solutions aligned with ISO 20022, SWIFT, SEPA and other payment formats, with AI usage governed by security policies.
• Ensure code quality via reviews, static analysis, and test-driven development, using AI to aid code generation and testing.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with hands-on experience in enterprise-grade financial applications and payment integration solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building high-performing, scalable, and resilient applications. You will play a key role in designing and delivering solutions for mission-critical systems within the banking and payments space. This position involves contributing across the full software development lifecycle - from requirement analysis and technical design to development, testing, and deployment - while ensuring compliance with industry standards for performance, security, and reliability. You should be comfortable using AI/LLM tools in your daily work and have the ability to quickly understand, learn, and implement AI-enabled solutions as the team adopts them.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in requirement-gathering sessions with product teams and assess the technical feasibility of features and integrations including AI-enabled capabilities where relevant.
• Take ownership of design and solutioning for modules assigned within a sprint, leveraging AI tools to accelerate design, coding, and testing.
• Drive technical design sessions and peer reviews to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
• Deliver robust and secure solutions aligned with ISO 20022, SWIFT, SEPA, and other payment formats, ensuring any AI usage adheres to security, data governance, and compliance requirements
• Ensure code quality through code reviews, static analysis tools, and adherence to test-driven development; use AI tools to assist with code generation, refactoring, and test creation while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
• Work closely with QA and DevOps to ensure smooth CI/CD and release processes, and adopt AI-enabled tooling where it improves productivity and reliability.
• Investigate production issues and perform RCA for defects and escalations.
• Continuously improve the system through innovation, refactoring, and adoption of emerging technologies, including practical AI/LLM-based solutions that improve productivity, reliability, or customer outcomes

What You Bring

Must-Haves

• 8-12 years of experience in Java/JEE development with expertise in Core Java, Java EE (8+), multithreading, memory management, and performance tuning.
• Strong proficiency in Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Data, Security) and messaging systems (IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka) in secure, HA environments.
• Hands-on experience with relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB), plus SSL/TLS and secure data flows.
• Skilled in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace).
• Deep understanding of financial messaging standards (ISO 20022, SWIFT, MT/MX messages, SEPA, NACHA) and payment flows (RTGS, real-time, cross-border), with compliance and security expertise.
• Proven experience in banking/fintech implementations, including reconciliation, settlement, and reference data management.
• Comfortable using AI/LLM tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) in day-to-day tasks such as code generation, refactoring, test creation, documentation, and debugging.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly understand, learn, and implement new technologies, including AI/LLM-based solutions, and apply them pragmatically in production systems

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience working with APIs for real-time and batch payment processing.
• Experience in secure system integration, including mutual TLS and client certificate management.
• Hands-on experience in developing adapters or extensions for products like VolPay or similar integration platforms.
• Knowledge of PaaS platforms (e.g., AWS MSK, Azure Service Bus, Red Hat OpenShift).
• Previous contributions to open-source projects or developer communities.
• Sun/Oracle Certified Java Programmer/Developer is a plus.
• Basic exposure to integrating LLM APIs or using AI frameworks (e.g., Spring AI, LangChain4j, or similar) is a plus, but not mandatory.
