Job summary

Mimecast India Private Limited is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead DMARC and Email Security initiatives in a cloud-scale environment. You will design secure, scalable backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and Micronaut, and drive email authentication engineering across multiple teams.

You will mentor engineers, shape technical strategy, and implement best practices for cloud-native development, CI/CD, and security reviews while collaborating with product and security stakeholders

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with expertise in Java, AWS cloud technologies, and email security protocols like DMARC, SPF, and DKIM, API based email protection. The ideal candidate will lead the design and development of secure, scalable systems while ensuring robust email authentication and protection. This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive innovation, mentor teams, and implement best practices for email security and cloud-native development.

What You'll Do

• Architect and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance systems using AWS services (e.g., Lambda, S3, API Gateway, RDS).
• Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost-efficiency, performance, and scalability.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and integration.
• Lead the development of backend systems using Java and frameworks like Spring Boot and Micronaut.
• Design and implement microservices architecture with RESTful APIs.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architectures, processes, and procedures.
• Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Architecture, UX, other Developers and SDETs to implement new product features with high quality and on time.
• Database Management: Design and manage databases, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and security.
• Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• DevOps & Deployment: Participate in DevOps activities, including CI/CD pipeline setup, automated testing, and deployment processes.

What You'll Bring

• Architecture experience at scale: Building and operating production systems, and engaging with product early in the cycle.
• Time as a Solutions Architect, Principal Engineer, Tech Lead, Product Architect, Staff Engineer, or equivalent.
• Comfortable owning architecture across multiple teams.
• Define and drive the technical strategy for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend their adoption to maintain a competitive edge.

• Expertise with AI tools (like Cursor, Claude) that enhance productivity is highly desired.
• Hands‑on expertise in Java development, with a strong understanding and experience in building scalable backend systems.
• Experience in development of microservices using frameworks like Spring Boot, Micronaut, etc.
• Experience in CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, ensuring efficient delivery of high-quality software.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Demonstrable ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive team culture.
• Experience in troubleshooting and debugging of customer issues.
• Good to have experience in software security, security reviews and secure coding practices.
• Ideally You Should Have Experience/Expertise With Java development in a cloud-service or micro-service approach.
• Strong object-oriented programming skills following SOLID principles.
• Experience building REST/HTTP microservices in Spring/Spring Boot/Micronaut.
• Experience using and modifying Gradle based CI/CD pipelines, Terraform.
• Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience in AWS, particularly DynamoDB, S3/CloudFront, ElastiCache/Redis, OpenSearch, ECS, EC2, load balancing and ASGs, CloudWatch.
• Experience building high volume, scalable, distributed backend services.
• Familiarity with SMTP, DNS, Domain and Email Security is a plus.
