Role
Principal Engineer leading major components of the Payments technology transformation. Architect, design, and implement mission-critical distributed, microservice-based enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot, and drive adoption of agent-enabled engineering workflows to accelerate delivery and improve developer productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical direction for distributed, microservice-based enterprise applications; enforce reliability, scalability, performance, and observability standards.
- Drive system design excellence through formal design reviews, ADRs, and technical deep-dives.
- Introduce, design, and operationalize agent-based engineering workflows across the SDLC using tools such as Claude Code and Copilot Workspace (repository-wide reasoning, refactoring, debugging, commit generation).
- Build agent-ready codebases via modular design, clean documentation, and comprehensive test coverage.
- Evaluate AI-generated code for quality, correctness, architectural alignment, and security.
- Deliver high-quality software aligned to business needs; translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions and implement robust automated testing and CI/CD practices.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across distributed systems and environments.
- Mentor and coach senior and junior engineers on system design, coding best practices, and agent-centric engineering patterns; promote collaboration across global agile teams.
Requirements
- 12-15+ years of software engineering experience (back-end or full-stack).
- Expertise with Java and Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud-native patterns.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with messaging technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus).
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (SQL Server, MongoDB).
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, DevOps tooling, and test automation frameworks.
- Experience in cross-border payments or financial markets and participation in large transformation programs.
- Prior experience introducing new engineering methodologies (AI/ML, agentic workflows, DevOps, cloud migrations).
Agentic Development (Distinctive Skills)
- Hands-on experience with agentic development tools such as Claude Code and Copilot Workspace or equivalent.
- Ability to orchestrate multi-agent workflows for refactoring, debugging, dependency updates, and code generation.
- Deep understanding of how modular design, documentation, and test coverage affect agent outputs.
- Experience evaluating and validating AI-generated code and building frameworks/patterns for agent-powered engineering at scale.
Soft Skills & Education
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities across distributed teams.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Position is for an experienced Principal-level engineer within Payments technology.
