Job summary

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams on complex US rail and highway projects from concept through construction.

The role requires 15+ years in bridge design, deep knowledge of AASHTO/ACI and LRFD, and strong BIM/Digital workflow expertise. You will mentor engineers, engage clients, and contribute to sustainable design practices within a global, innovation-driven firm.

Qualifications

  • BE Civil with M.Tech in Structural Engineering; Chartered status or pursuing it.
  • Minimum 15 years of bridge design consulting experience for highway/rail/infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO/ACI, LRFD, DMRB, DOT specs; familiarity with UK/Eurocodes a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for multidisciplinary US projects and coordinate across disciplines.
  • Oversee design of rail, highway, and utility structures per US codes and client needs.
  • Manage full project lifecycle from concept to close-out and promote BIM/digital workflows.
  • Mentor junior engineers toward licensure and professional accreditation.
  • Engage clients and stakeholders, defining scope and ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Drive sustainable design practices and contribute to Arcadis' rail capability in the US.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (BE) in Civil Engineering with a Master’s degree (M.Tech) in Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or actively pursuing professional accreditation) with a recognized body in the US (PE), Canada (P.Eng.), or equivalent regions. Experience working towards or holding CEng (UK) is a plus
  • Minimum 15 years of bridge design consulting experience, with significant expertise in highway/railway/utility and infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical application of North American standards AASHTO/ACI, LRFD, DMRB, various DOT Standards and specifications. Familiarity with UK standards and Eurocodes is considered an added advantage.
Principal Duties & Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and BIM technicians on complex projects in the US, ensuring effective coordination across all relevant disciplines.
  • Provide technical oversight and sign-off for rail and highway bridge, utility structures designs, in full compliance with US codes, DOT specifications and client requirements.
  • Oversee the complete project lifecycle, from concept and optioneering through detailed engineering, construction support, and close-out.
  • Drive innovation, digital transformation, and best practice in all aspects of structural engineering and BIM workflows.
  • Champion the integration of advanced digital design tools and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers, including guidance towards professional accreditation (P.Eng., PE).
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the principal point of contact for clients and stakeholders in the US and other regions, building enduring, collaborative relationships.
  • Work closely with clients and regional leads to define project scope, set expectations, and ensure successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Provide expert advice and alternative solutions, leveraging deep knowledge of North American standards and practices.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the US markets.
Team & Resource Management
  • Line manage key staff, ensuring effective resource allocation and promoting a high-performance team environment.
  • Take responsibility for team development, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging knowledge sharing, innovation, and digital upskilling.
Operational & Commercial Management
  • Ensure all deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality, implementing robust QA/QC procedures aligned with GEC QMS and North American best practices.
  • Manage project risks and resolve issues proactively to ensure project success.
  • Contribute to business strategy, planning, and the ongoing enhancement of Arcadis’ rail structures capability in the US.
  • Promote and implement sustainable design practices on all projects.
Specific Competencies
  • Advanced expertise in North American standards AASHTO, AREMA, ACI) for bridge and rail structure design; knowledge of UK/Eurocode standards is an asset.
  • Proficiency in structural design software such as MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, SAM LEAP, RM Bridge, MatchCad, Microstation, ROBOT, LUSAS, SOFiSTiK, LEAP Bridge, RAM Connection, and BIM platforms (Revit, MicroStation, ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Strong track record in the design and assessment of steel, concrete, prestressed, and composite bridges, including load rating and preparation of technical reports and drawings for US projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects in the US.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven experience managing and implementing BIM/Digital workflows through all project phases and keeping abreast of emerging trends and technologies.
  • Commercial acumen and experience in developing business opportunities and client relationships within North America.
  • Strong people management, mentoring, and coaching skills, with a commitment to developing future leaders within the team.
  • Integrity, proactive risk management, and a passion for sustainable engineering.
