Job description

Mandatory Skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK highway design (road geometry, road restraint system, site clearance, pavement, signages, road markings) with a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software including Civil 3D, Open Roads, MX, PDS/Key Line and Sign, AutoCAD and ProjectWise.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team and managing stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead teams and oversee the operational management of up to 10 staff.
  • Experience in resource and project management.
  • Capability to produce technical specifications and reports.
  • Awareness of current and emerging technologies relevant to the highways sector.
  • Experience liaising with clients, co‑professionals and design teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and strong organisational skills.
Desired Skills
  • Financial management.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.

Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day project management, leading and delivering various UK schemes.
  • Function as a technical specialist developing and applying advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems, seeking innovation in delivery.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff, providing guidance and support as appropriate.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within budget, programme and technical standards, and meet QA, CDM, Sustainability and HSE requirements.
  • Involved in internal client liaison, financial control of projects, recruitments, business development activities and production of fee proposals.
  • Manage processes to resolve technical issues and risks in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Contribute to a Lean approach to drive efficiency and remove waste from processes.
  • Guide, supervise and direct all team members in technical and project management matters while aiding the technical and professional development of the team.
  • Provide direct line management, mentoring and managing early career professionals to ensure technical excellence in all deliverables.
  • Assist the discipline head in producing periodic reports such as project performance, forecast utilisation and workload.
  • Help maintain a positive working environment and culture within the team.
