Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead and deliver complex electrical designs for water and wastewater projects. Based in India, you will work with multi‑disciplinary teams, mentor colleagues, and ensure safety, quality and client satisfaction across regional and UK projects.

You will drive design excellence using BIM, Dialux‑Evo, ETAP and related tools, coordinate with process, civil, and structural teams, and oversee technical delivery from concept to construction.

Qualifications

  • B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
  • 14+ years in design of water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Chartered Engineer status with professional institution.
  • Experience leading development and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of British Standards, IEC, IEEE preferred.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and delegation skills.
  • Proficient in BIM/digital/data analytics software and related tools.
  • Experience delivering electrical design for HV/LV systems and BIM models.

Role description

Our Water Design and Engineering team is involved in some of the UK’s most complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an excellent reputation in the delivery of such schemes and are working closely with some of the UK’s most established and recognisable companies, undertaking a vast array of projects to enhance the UK’s water infrastructure and environment.

As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will be a key leader within our multidisciplinary delivery teams on a variety of water and wastewater capital projects, having the opportunity to apply your expertise to projects for our clients regionally and across the UK. You would be based in Bangalore / Mumbai / Hyderabad / Noida.

Reporting to the Associate / Technical Director, you will be responsible for technically leading and/or managing the delivery of project‑related tasks to meet budget, timeframe and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Arcadis' services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and building networks within the industry.

Role accountabilities
  • Ability to self‑start and work both independently and as a team member carrying out production, checking, review or approval of complex electrical detailed designs including calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Leading design and advisory services relating to new and existing water and wastewater process plants, pumping stations and ancillary assets.
  • Ensuring safety of yourself and others through design leadership and actions.
  • Technical delivery of multi‑disciplinary projects, in a Design Lead capacity where assigned, using latest digital design techniques.
  • Identify and develop innovative and optimized technical solutions based on client needs and capturing key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.
  • Lead and co‑coordinate work with multi‑disciplinary teams (e.g., process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and ICA) and ensuring projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
  • Proactively engaging with various Arcadis Regional offices/teams regarding safe design requirements, and flag risks at appropriate levels. Resolving issues and create strong relationships with project colleagues in the regions, evidenced through great feedback.
  • Mentoring and technical supervising colleagues with their professional development.
  • Line management and performance development responsibility for assigned staff.
  • Overseeing the work and/or development of multiple colleagues working on complex projects across multiple disciplines.
  • Taking responsibility for technical resource allocation, quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/ modifications.
  • Promote MEICA team capability and achievements both internally and externally.
  • Liaising and assisting the project manager to ensure commercial aspects relating to the design team can achieve a successful result. Developing plans and budgets for medium‑size and/or complex tasks and monitor progress against these.
  • Handle multiple management responsibilities, overseeing the work and/or development of multiple colleagues working on complex projects in a single discipline.
  • Design Health & Safety management for the project works.
Qualifications & Experience
  • B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
  • 14+ years relevant experience in design of water and wastewater treatment systems, drainage and pumping stations.
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a professional institution such as IET, InstMC or CIWEM.
  • Have relevant experience including leadership of the development and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards, IEC, IEEE standards is preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills.
  • Strong command of BIM/digital/data analytics software including relevant software skills - Dialux‑Evo, Amtech, ETAP, Furse etc.
  • Knowledge of usage of Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Plant 3D, Revit on project design is added advantage.
  • Demonstrated delivery acumen. Experience in electrical design for HV and LV system including preparation of specifications, drawings and BIM models for medium to large scale projects related to Water and Wastewater Treatment plants, Pumping stations and other related structures, Water and wastewater conveyance systems, Drainage systems and flood protection facilities.
  • Experience of delivering designs and reports at all stages from concept through to final project and construction delivery.
  • Excellent oral/visual/written communication skills in English language and experience in working with remote clients and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • A strong, self‑motivated, and assertive person capable of managing multiple assignments.
  • Well‑developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
