Job summary

Jacobs in Mumbai, India, seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead data center electrical design, prepare basis of design, load lists, SLDs and layouts, and provide procurement support while ensuring compliance with IS/IEC/NBC codes.

You will guide a design team across 2D/3D models, coordinate with clients and multiple disciplines, manage deliverables, and drive cost‑effective, reliable power solutions for critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical with 16 years' experience, including 5 years as lead engineer.
• Proven ability to lead electrical design for data centers.
• Strong knowledge of IS/IEC/NBC codes.
• Experience in 100 MVA power requirement projects.
• Proven multi-office execution experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design activities and review Basis of Design, SLDs, and layouts.
• Prepare load lists, MTOs, and power distribution plans.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines and clients.
• Guide designers in 2D/3D electrical layouts and MTO extraction.

Your impact

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, responsibilities include preparing and reviewing the Basis of Design, Load Lists, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), Layouts, Material Take-Offs (MTO), and providing procurement assistance. The role requires hands‑on experience with both Indian and International design codes, as well as effective interdisciplinary coordination to ensure project success.

Candidate should possess following as a minimum

• Leading the entire Electrical Engineering activities to carry out Electrical design work based on standard company procedure / other procedures, methods outlined
• Should have fair understanding on Telecommunications Industry Association TIA-942-B Standard for Data Centers.
• Should be able to prepare Basis of Design for Data Center, Master Plan, Concept, Schematics.
• Detail Engineering include preparation of Load list and load balancing in case of power failure at one source to maintain redundancy.
• Preparation of SLD, Power distribution, Equipment Layout as per NBC/CEIG/Electricity Rule, Cable tray / Earthing layout.
• Preparation of design calculations for sizing the major electrical equipment. Familiar with ETAP calculations – for Load flow, Short-circuit, Harmonic study, Arc flash study. Should be able to do Lightning protection calculation.
• Guiding a team of designers in 2D / 3D electrical engineering, review of 3D model and review of layouts and MTOs extracted from the model. Should be able to do cost estimation of Electrical Package.
• Procurement activity for Electrical items covering preparation of enquiry specification, review of technical offer and preparation of TR, preparation of order specifications.
• Review of vendor drawings, review of electrical content for mechanical packages. Participate in discussions with the client, as necessary.
• Timely completion of designs, requisitions and engineering deliverables.
• Technical guidance to Electrical Engineers and Designers to carry out design work as per the requirements of the Project. Adherence to Dept./Discipline Working Instructions and Quality Systems.
• Meet client expectations and maintain long-term relationship with client. Attend to client’s feedback and any complaints
• Monitor work and progress in compliance with the project requirements and schedule.
• Ensure that site issues viz. Technical Queries, Non-conformity Notices are dealt effectively and expeditiously; and also ensure competent staff are available for site trouble shooting as necessary. Attend Design Engineering Management Review Meetings.
• Coordination with various stake holders like Client / various internal disciplines like projects / Piping / mechanical / architect / civil / vendors for effective engineering management.

Here’s what you’ll need

• B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical with 16 Years; out of which at least 5 years as Lead Electrical Engineer in Data Center projects. Should have led electrical team in at least one job with at least 100 MVA power requirement.
• Self-driven with good leadership & reporting capabilities.
• Should have experience in multi office execution for Global projects
• Knowledge of Electrical codes & standards (IS / IEC / NBC) is mandatory.
• EHV Design knowledge is an added advantage.
