Job summary

Stryker Corporation is seeking a Principal Engineer – AI/ML to shape the technical direction of an AI-powered voice and speech platform. You will guide architecture decisions, work with Azure services, and mentor teams to deliver production-grade healthcare solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, scalable back-end design in Java and Python, and collaboration with product and AI teams to drive real-time speech applications across healthcare use cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS or a related field.
• 14+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong backend development experience in Java.
• Working knowledge of Python for AI/ML integration and experimentation.
• Experience building cloud-based applications on Microsoft Azure or a similar cloud platform.
• Experience working with AI/ML services such as speech recognition, LLMs, or conversational AI.
• Good understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
• Strong problem-solving and technical leadership skills.

Work Flexibility

Hybrid or Onsite Vocera, now part of Stryker, is looking for a Principal Engineer – AI/ML to help drive the technical direction of our AI-powered voice and speech platform. You will work closely with engineering teams to build intelligent healthcare solutions, including real-time speech recognition, AI-powered interpretation, ambient documentation, and conversational voice experiences. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing scalable AI solutions and guiding engineering teams through architecture and implementation decisions.

What You\'ll Do

• Lead the technical architecture for AI-powered voice and speech applications.

Work Flexibility

• Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.
• Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.
• Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements.
• Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.
• Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
