Job summary

Mercer seeks a Principal Engineer to join its Technology team in Gurugram. This hybrid role requires at least three days a week in the office and offers end-to-end ownership of complex projects across the stack.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of distributed systems experience, strong Java/J2EE and Python skills, expertise in microservices, APIs, databases, and front-end languages, and the ability to mentor teammates.

Qualifications

• Core technology skills required: Java/J2EE, full stack development, Python, microservices.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and AWS cloud.
• API development and open source technologies knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle: design, architecture, implementation, testing, shipping and servicing.
• Write and review clean, high-quality code focused on performance, simplicity, durability and maintainability.
• Analyze data to identify optimization opportunities for services.
• Lead architecture discussions for products/solutions and refine code plans.
• Engage in R&D for cutting-edge accelerations and optimizations.
• Mentor junior team members in growth and development.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects and UX Designers on new features.

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Technology team at Mercer. This role will be based in Gurugram. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Principal Engineer – Applications Development

We’re seeking a Principal Engineer who is ready to work with new technologies and architectures in a forward-thinking organization that’s always pushing boundaries. This person will have complete, end-to-end ownership of projects. The ideal candidate has experience building products across the stack and a firm understanding of micro-services architecture, APIs, databases, and front-end languages.

We will count on you to:

• Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, shipping, and servicing.
• Write and review clean, well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability
• Performing data analysis to identify opportunities to optimize services
• Leading discussions for the architecture of products/solutions, refine code plans
• Working on research and development in cutting edge accelerations and optimizations
• Mentoring junior team members in their growth and development
• Collaborating with Product Managers, Architects, and UX Designers on new features

What you need to have:

• Core Technology skills - Java/J2EE, Full stack development, Python, Micro services, ,
• SQL/NO SQL Databases, Cloud (AWS), API development and other open source technologies
• 8+ years’ experience building highly available distributed systems at scale
• Configuration Management (Terraform, Chef, Puppet or Ansible)
• Problem-solving skills to determine the cause of bugs and resolve complaints
• Strong organizational skills, including an ability to perform under pressure and manage Multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
