Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise seeks a Principal Engineer based onsite in Bengaluru to design and deliver advanced network software for edge-to-cloud platforms. You will lead complex packet-forwarding features, debug Linux/microkernel issues, and contribute to automated testing while collaborating with global teams.

You should bring 15+ years of CS/EE experience, strong C/C++ and Python skills, and a deep networking background with routing/switching expertise.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customer-facing teams to understand requirements and translate them into software design.
• Develop and enhance complex packet-forwarding features (IPv4/IPv6/MPLS, SRv6, EVPN-VxLAN, Multicast, Firewall/Filter, DHCP, Services).
• Debug and fix complex microkernel/Linux issues.
• Improve unit tests and automation coverage.
• Work with cross-functional teams to drive innovations and resolve complex problems.
• Address field customer issues and sustain existing features.

Job Description

Job Family Definition: Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.

Management Level Definition: Contributions have visible technical impact on a product or major subcomponent. Applies in-depth professional knowledge and innovative ideas to solve complex problems. Visible contributions improve time-to-market, achieve cost reductions, or satisfy current and future unmet customer needs. Recognized internal authority on key technology area applying innovative principles and ideas. Provides technical leadership for significant project/program work. Leads or participates in cross-functional initiatives and contributes to mentorship and knowledge sharing across the organization.

What you will do

• Work with customer facing teams to understand requirements and translate the requirements into software design
• Develop complex packet forward features in IPv4/IPv6/MPLS, SRv6, EVPN-VxLAN, Multicast, Firewall/Filter, Cos, DHCP, Services areas etc.
• Analyze, debug and fix complex microkernel/Linux issues.
• Enhance Unit Test for Automation
• Continuously drive innovations by working with cross functional teams to address complex problems.
• Assist in solving complex customer issues and queries reported from the field and drive customer satisfaction.
• Work on sustaining existing features.

What you need to bring

• A minimum of B.E or BTech from a reputed institution in CS/EE with 15+ years of experience is required.
• Excellent C/C++/Python programming, design, problem solving and debugging skills
• Must have strong Networking background.
• Prior experience with Software development on routers, switches is desirable.
• Prior experience with datapath ASICs like Broadcom, Mellanox, Innovium, Barefoot or any other NPU is highly desirable.
• Must be playing a strong technical role in the current position Exposure to multi-core Software architectures
• A clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements with a strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.
• Candidate must have a strong record delivering software projects on-time and with high quality.
