Job summary

Empower India seeks an experienced data modeling professional to design enterprise data models for Snowflake, translating business concepts into scalable conceptual, logical, and physical models that power governed data products.

You will collaborate with product and data owners to implement star/snowflake schemas, document metadata and lineage, and enforce privacy and access controls for reliable analytics across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, data/information management or related field.
• 10+ years in data modeling/warehouse design and delivering models at scale.
• Hands-on Snowflake modeling (star/snowflake, 3NF/Vault where applicable) with performance patterns.
• Experience with data contracts, CDEs, glossary, lineage, and governance concepts.
• Proficient SQL skills; dbt or equivalent for model-as-code and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Translate domain concepts and CDEs into conceptual and logical models; define conformed dimensions and canonical entities.
• Perform physical modeling on Snowflake, document SCDs, surrogate keys, partitioning and clustering choices.
• Define data contracts (schemas, SLAs/SLOs) and ensure metadata, lineage, and owners are discoverable.
• Embed governance by design with tagging for PII and privacy controls across pipelines.
• Publish runbooks to meet BI latency targets and advise on warehouse strategy and caching.
• Create model diagrams, semantic definitions, and consumer guides; mentor junior modelers.

Design the enterprise-wide data modeling standards - conceptual, logical , & physical data models that power governed, performant, reusable data products on Snowflake. You’ll turn business concepts/CDEs (Critical Data Elements)and analytics needs into star schemas, vault/3NF structures, and semantic definitions that are consistent, documented, and easy to use. Wired into our catalog, lineage, quality checks, and access controls.

Essential Functions

• Working with product & data owners to translate domain concepts and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) into clear conceptual & logical models; define conformed dimensions, own canonical entities and models across multiple business areas, and metric definitions aligned to glossary/ontology.
• Physical modeling on Snowflake: Implement star/snowflake schemas (and when appropriate, Data Vault/3NF) optimized for Snowflake’s micro-partitioning, materialized views, and search optimization; document SCD handling, surrogate keys, and partitioning/clustering choices.

Data Product Contracts

• Define data contracts (schemas, SLAs/SLOs, versioning, change policy) and ensure models are discoverable with complete metadata, lineage, and owners in the catalog.

Governance-by-design

• Embed classification/tags for CDEs/PII in models and propagate them through pipelines so tag-based masking/row-access policies can be enforced; provide evidence for attestations.

Performance & Reliability

Publish modeling/runbooks that hit BI latency targets (<10s where required) under concurrency, with guidance on warehouse strategy, result caching, and model refactoring.

Quality & Observability

• Specify validation rules and profiling thresholds (freshness, volume, schema) tied to CDEs; wire tests into CI/CD and the stewardship workflow.

Enablement & Documentation

• Create model diagrams, semantic definitions, and consumer guides; partner with stewards and analysts to drive adoption and deprecate redundant reports/data sets.

Mentorship

• Will mentor more junior data modelers as needed.

How You’ll Work

• Model-as-code with Git-based CI/CD and tests; collaborate with stewards/owners; integrate with catalog/lineage; design for privacy/performance from day one - so governed data is easy (and safe) to use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data/Information Management, or related field. Master's degree plus.
• 10+ years in data modeling/warehouse design; proven delivery of conceptual/logical/physical models consumed at scale.
• Hands-on Snowflake modeling (star/snowflake, 3NF/Vault where appropriate), plus performance patterns (materialized views, search optimization, clustering/micro-partition hygiene).
• Data contracts & CDEs: designing schemas/SLOs, versioning, and integrating models with glossary, lineage, and stewardship processes.
• Governance & privacy: applying object tags, aligning models to classification/retention, and enabling tag-based masking/row-access.
• Tooling: SQL; dbt or equivalent for model-as-code (tests, documentation, CI/CD); modeling/diagram tools; catalog/lineage platforms.
• Strong communication—able to reconcile competing narratives and converge on trusted, reusable semantics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mapping business architecture/ontology to data models; metric layers/semantic models for BI
• Exposure to data fabric concepts (automation of tagging/metadata, policy propagation).
• Helpful: Snowflake SnowPro (Data Engineer/Architect), dbt certification, CDMP/DCAM familiarity.
