Role Overview
The Primary Researcher is responsible for conducting on-ground political and social research by directly engaging with key stakeholders across assigned constituencies and regions.
This is an ON-THE-MOVE role. You’ll spend significant time in the field, travelling across constituencies, meeting people, asking the right questions and understanding what is happening on the ground.
The role involves gathering, verifying and analysing field-level information and converting ground realities into structured insights, reports and actionable inputs for campaign and political strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-ground research across assigned constituencies and regions.
- Engage directly with political leaders, journalists, local influencers, community representatives, voters and other relevant stakeholders.
- Gather primary information on political sentiment, voter behaviour, local issues, community concerns and party dynamics.
- Build and maintain relevant local networks to strengthen field-level information gathering.
- Verify and cross-check information through multiple sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Observe and document ground-level developments, conversations and emerging political trends.
- Analyse field findings to identify key trends, concerns, opportunities and political insights.
- Prepare structured constituency assessments, research reports, issue briefs and regular field updates.
- Present key findings clearly to research, strategy and campaign teams.
- Provide timely and actionable inputs based on changing ground realities.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure responsible handling of sensitive field information.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in primary, political, field research, journalism or a related field, with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Sociology, Journalism, Public Policy or a related discipline.
- Strong communication, interviewing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and gather reliable information.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to identify trends and convert field findings into clear, structured insights.
- Willingness to travel extensively for on-ground research and proficiency in English and relevant regional language(s).
