Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Substation Engineer to lead engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects in Chennai. You will prepare layouts, grounding and lightning drawings, and oversee tendering and vendor evaluations in line with IEC, IEEE and AS standards.

You will work as an independent contributor with strong English communication, use CAD tools like BIM/AutoCAD/Revit, and collaborate across teams to ensure compliant, high-quality engineering outputs for diverse

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering with 7–12 years of experience.
• Proficiency in CAD design tools including BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit.
• Knowledge of international standards IEC, IEEE and related tendering processes.
• Experience in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).
• Independent contributor with ownership and proactive problem solving.
• Strong English written and spoken communication.

Responsibilities

• Engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to medium complexity.
• Prepare substation layouts, grounding and lightning system drawings, cable routings and BOMs.
• Vetting of vendor offers and technical risk assessments.
• Estimate engineering hours and support site visits and FAT/SAT as needed.
• Ensure compliance with external/internal regulations and guidelines.
• Support quality system improvements and Opex initiatives.

Job description

The opportunity:

Engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to medium complexity. Execution of complete engineering assignments on small, medium or large projects/tender cost effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, prepare Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, engg hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE & AS.

• Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, Cable tray routings, Clearance drawings.

• Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, Cable sizing, Battery & Battery Charger Sizing, etc.

• Technical data sheets verification of primary equipment. Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc.

• Vendor Offer Evaluations. FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.

• Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.

• Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system & follow Opex initiatives.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:

• Bachelor’s or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering, with 7 - 12 years’ experience.

• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence).

• Knowledge of relevant International standards ex. IEEE, IEC,etc. Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).

• Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.

• Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization.

• Works independently, applying established standards. Dynamic and Proactive, willing to grow in the organization.

• Team player, ready to play the role across the different countries. High level of ownership.

• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
