Responsibilities
- Provide primary designs, solutions and technical input to contracts across the employee's business area.
- Deliver departmental work packages on time and within budget.
- Prepare primary design deliverables such as Single line Diagram (SLD), layout and sections of switchyard, cable trench layout, GIS/Control Building General Arrangement drawings, plan and sections, cable spread plan for HV cable tray layout for GIS/Control Building basement, earthing/lightning layout and calculations, illumination layout and calculations, erection key diagram, Al tube cutting schedule, hardware selections, transformer yard layout, etc.
- Perform design calculations for bus bar sizing, short‑circuit force, SAG‑Tension, cantilever strength, DSLP, grounding, auxiliary transformer sizing, battery charger sizing, DG set sizing, UPS sizing, illumination, and load flow study (MV/LV system).
- Prepare purchase specifications for HV equipment and review supplier offers, loading data, and supplier drawings for HVAC substations.
- Generate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for grounding, cable tray, LV power/control, clamps/connectors, busbar, etc.
- Coordinate with client, civil, project management and other interfaces.
- Monitor engineering delivery progress according to the programme, escalating issues as required.
- Ensure design risk assessments/HAZIDs are in place and residual risks are documented.
- Help maintain consistency in design and support the team leader on improvement issues.
- Actively participate in standardization of onshore primary design and business improvement programmes.
- Take ownership and accountability for the area of responsibility, contribute positively to the team, set goals, clarify expectations, invest time to help teammates, and demonstrate professional development.
- Collaborate with all engineering departments and project managers within Siemens ET.
- Commit to the Siemens Think Customer initiative, including excellent call handling and voicemail skills.
- Continuously review engineering processes and recommend changes.
Qualifications
- Typical 3–8 years of design experience within the HV substation business.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of HV substation design, TD standards, and relevant standards specifications (IS, IEC, IEEE, electrical rules, SIGRE, CBIP, NBC, fire safety, standard practices).
- Familiarity with health and safety standards, including CDM regulations applicable to HV substation design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, and E3D.
- Good IT literacy, especially Word, Visio, and Excel.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
