Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in database administration, development, and optimization. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) PostgreSQL, demonstrating deep understanding and hands‑on experience with cloud‑native database solutions. This role requires a strong background in traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as SQL Server and MySQL, particularly in migration, integration, and operational support contexts.

As a Senior Database Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing our database infrastructure on GCP, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability. You will lead complex database projects, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and collaborate closely with development, operations, and architecture teams to deliver robust and efficient data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

GCP PostgreSQL Expertise (Primary Focus):

• Design, implement, and manage complex PostgreSQL databases and data warehousing solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing services like Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL and/or self‑managed PostgreSQL on GCE.
• Optimize PostgreSQL database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and resource allocation.
• Implement and manage high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restore strategies for PostgreSQL databases on GCP.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex database performance issues, connectivity problems, and data integrity concerns in GCP environments.
• Utilize GCP‑specific tools and services for database management, monitoring (e.g., Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging), and automation.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Python, shell scripting) for database provisioning, patching, monitoring, and routine tasks on GCP.
• Ensure data security, compliance (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2), and access control for GCP PostgreSQL databases.
• Stay current with new GCP database features and PostgreSQL versions, evaluating and recommending their adoption.

Database Management (SQL Server & MySQL):

• Provide expert‑level support, administration, and optimization for Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases in on‑premise, hybrid, or cloud environments.
• Lead and execute database migration projects from SQL Server and/or MySQL to PostgreSQL on GCP, including data transformation and validation.
• Perform performance tuning, troubleshooting, and capacity planning for SQL Server and MySQL instances.
• Manage database backups, recovery, replication, and high availability solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups, MySQL Replication).
• Develop and maintain T‑SQL and PL/SQL/MySQL Stored Procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects.
• Collaborate with architects and development teams to design scalable, secure, and highly performant database solutions that meet business requirements.
• Provide technical leadership in defining database standards, best practices, and governance policies.
• Participate in data modeling, schema design, and data pipeline architecture discussions.
• Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for database‑related projects and initiatives.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior database engineers and developers.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of database operations and engineering processes.

General Database Operations:

• Implement and manage database security policies and procedures.
• Perform regular database health checks, audits, and performance tuning.
• Participate in on‑call rotation for critical database incidents as needed.
• Document database designs, configurations, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in database administration, engineering, and development.
• Expert‑level proficiency (5+ years dedicated experience) with PostgreSQL, including advanced features, performance tuning, scaling, and high availability.
• Deep hands‑on experience (3+ years) with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) database services, specifically Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, and familiarity with GKE/GCE deployments of PostgreSQL.
• Strong experience (5+ years) with Microsoft SQL Server, including administration, T‑SQL development, and performance tuning.
• Solid experience (3+ years) with MySQL, including administration, schema design, and optimization.
• Extensive experience with database migration strategies and tools, particularly migrating from on‑prem to cloud (GCP) and between different RDBMS platforms.
• Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers across different RDBMS.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for automation of database tasks.
• Strong understanding of database security best practices, data encryption, and compliance regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Experience with database monitoring tools and techniques.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness and ability to participate in an on‑call rotation for production support.

Preferred Qualifications:

• GCP Professional Cloud Database Engineer Certification or equivalent.
• Experience with other GCP data services (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Pub/Sub, Dataflow).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
• Experience in the healthcare industry.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
