Job summary

Weekday is hiring a Platform Backend Engineer to build scalable backend services and agentic systems powering enterprise AI and supply chain decision intelligence. You will design reusable APIs, execution frameworks, and production-ready agent loops for cross-team use.

Location is Bengaluru or Chennai with hybrid work. They are open at Senior and Staff levels, requiring 3+ years of backend experience and strong Python proficiency to translate ambiguous requirements into robust engineering

Qualifications

• Strong fundamentals in backend engineering, including problem decomposition, data structures, low-level design, and debugging.
• Experience building production-grade backend systems.
• Ability to explain system behaviour beyond the framework layer, including API design and DB interactions.
• Experience taking technical projects from initial design through production deployment and improvements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements without predefined solutions.
• Hands-on ownership with clear communication of decisions, trade-offs, and incidents.
• Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment delivering end-to-end solutions.

• Own platform capabilities end to end, from problem definition and architectural design to development, release, and continuous iteration.

• Develop robust data models and handle concurrency, failure recovery, performance optimization, and observability.

We are looking for a skilled Platform Backend Engineer to build and scale the backend infrastructure that powers enterprise AI and supply chain decision-intelligence products. The role involves developing core platform services, reusable APIs, execution frameworks, and agentic systems that enable product teams and AI agents to operate reliably in production.

You will take ambiguous technical problems from initial design through implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement. The work spans core backend platform engineering and the agentic layer, including frameworks for building and orchestrating AI agents and the agents built on top of them.

Hiring is open at both Senior and Staff levels, with the level determined by the scope of ownership, technical depth, and impact demonstrated.

About the Platform

The platform enables enterprises to solve complex supply chain challenges using AI-driven decision intelligence. It combines ready-to-use AI capabilities for network optimization, inventory allocation, route scheduling, fulfillment planning, order promising, demand forecasting, prediction, and scenario analysis with a flexible development platform.

Business and technical users can build and refine solutions using no-code tools, custom code, or extensible platform components. The engineering team focuses on providing the scalable, composable infrastructure that makes these capabilities reliable and accessible to enterprise customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Own platform capabilities end to end, from problem definition and architectural design to development, release, and continuous iteration.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and reusable execution patterns that other engineering teams can build upon.
• Develop robust data models and handle concurrency, failure recovery, performance optimization, and observability.
• Build and improve the frameworks used to develop, execute, and orchestrate AI agents.
• Develop production-ready agent loops, tool integrations, orchestration mechanisms, and user-facing experiences built on agentic systems.
• Translate ambiguous business and technical requirements into practical, maintainable engineering solutions.
• Debug complex production issues, identify root causes, and improve system reliability based on real-world behaviour.
• Make sound technical decisions around system design, APIs, databases, and underlying execution mechanisms.
• Collaborate with product teams and other engineers to deliver reusable platform capabilities that support multiple downstream consumers.
• Take ownership of production systems, monitor their performance, and evolve their architecture as requirements and usage change.
• Communicate design decisions, trade-offs, implementation details, and technical challenges clearly across teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications
