Job summary

Tata Consulting Engineers Limited, a leading Indian engineering consultancy, is seeking a Planning Engineer with at least 2+ years of multi-disciplinary project planning experience. The role focuses on developing and maintaining schedules, applying best practices, and coordinating with functional managers to ensure on-time project delivery.

Candidate should be proficient in Primavera P6 and MS Office, with a postgraduate engineering background. PMI PM certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of engineering, project control systems and construction management.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience as a planner in a multi discipline project environment
  • Knowledge in the use of Primavera Project Planner and MS Office package

Responsibilities

  • Conduct planning meeting with Functional Managers to finalize project implementation schedule
  • Create detailed logic linked project plans around project WBS in primavera or by using various Microsoft tools
  • Monitor plans to ensure that the processes relating project planning to detailed planning are being adhered to
  • Manage and control the project schedule against base line conditions, including staff, production and materials
  • Confirm project schedules and critical paths and set baseline for project implementation phase
  • Generate and verify weekly updates and issue progress reports
  • Participate in project schedule risk analysis and include resultant contingency in baseline
  • Using progress reports (early and late curves) and project schedule. maintain, optimize and monitor progress. Identify and resolve issues

Purpose & Scope of Position

The Planning Engineer is responsible for the delivery of project planning and progress measurement, ensuring that TCE’s procedures and best practices are applied, as appropriate, and recommending changes to the Project Controls Manager where required. He is responsible for developing and maintaining the project master schedule to meet the project objectives.

Experience
  • Working knowledge of engineering, project control systems and construction management.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience as a planner in a multi discipline project environment
  • Knowledge in the use of Primavera Project Planner and MS Office package
Qualification
  • Postgraduate or graduate in an engineering discipline
  • Professional Project Management Certification (preferable from PMI) or Post Graduate degree in Project Engineering and Management or Post Graduate degree in Advanced Construction Management
Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct planning meeting with Functional Managers to finalize project implementation schedule
  2. Create detailed logic linked project plans around project WBS in primavera or by using various Microsoft tools
  3. Monitor plans to ensure that the processes relating project planning to detailed planning are being adhered to
  4. Manage and control the project schedule against base line conditions, including staff, production and materials
  5. Confirm project schedules and critical paths and set baseline for project implementation phase
  6. Generate and verify weekly updates and issue progress reports
  7. Participate in project schedule risk analysis and include resultant contingency in baseline
  8. Using progress reports (early and late curves) and project schedule. maintain, optimize and monitor progress. Identify and resolve issues
  9. Monitor slippages of critical and near critical paths and discuss with Project Controls Engineer/Project Manager for resolution
  10. Ensures the integrity of the project schedule through approved scope changes, fiscal changes and contingency reallocations
  11. Re-base line the plan(s) following a major contract change, to create a revised, viable programme of work for the remaining tasks
  12. Once a change is approved, maintain and optimize the schedule, monitor progress and highlight/ resolve areas of potential concern.
  13. Ensures the project cost reports include schedule adjustments that could affect the forecast final costs
  14. Analyse, interpret and report on key performance indicators such as earned value, schedule performance indicators, cost performance indicators and forecast cost at completion date
  15. Facilitate exchange of information between Project Manager and Project Controls Engineer
  16. Communicate cost and schedule risk reports to Project Controls Engineer contributing to recovery and improvement initiatives
