Job summary

Fluor Corp in India is seeking an experienced engineer in Material Engineering & Control to support hydrocarbon/EPC projects. You will lead a small team, review piping materials, and apply engineering techniques to deliver cost-effective solutions across disciplines.

The role requires familiarity with ASME codes, procurement coordination, and strong communication with clients and vendors. It offers opportunities to contribute to complex projects and advance within a global engineering group.

Qualifications

• Engineering graduate with 5–20 years experience in Material Engineering & Control in an EPC firm
• Experience in supervisory/lead role and team management
• Knowledge of piping materials and codes: ASME 31.3, ASME 31.1, ASTM, ANSI, API, Indian standards
• Strong communication and coordination with clients, projects, procurement, construction, vendors and other disciplines
• Understanding of piping material cycle, contingency philosophy, material control cycle and MTO processes

Responsibilities

• Support Area Lead by applying standard engineering techniques to moderate assignments
• Assist Lead in developing cost-effective engineering approaches for discipline work
• Develop and review piping design specifications and criteria
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, subcontracting
• Perform calculations, specify equipment, solve moderate engineering problems
• Review vendor documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies
• Analyze problems and provide independent recommendations
• Other duties as assigned

Job Description

• The purpose of this position is to provide intermediate technical knowledge, and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position supports the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects and evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a small set of moderately difficult assignments.
• Assist the Lead in employing cost competitive engineering techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of the discipline engineering work
• Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
• Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
• Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of moderate engineering complexity
• Review vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution
• Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

• Engineering graduate with a minimum of 5 to 20 years relevant experience in Material Engineering & Control in an EPC firm working in Hydrocarbon / Petro-chemical / Oil & Gas /Metal & Mining sectors.
• Should have worked in a supervisory / lead position and be able to manage team of Material and Material control engineers.
• Should possess good knowledge of different Piping materials and Codes for Pressure Piping, ASME 31.3, ASME 31.1, ASTM, ANSI, API and Indian standards
• Should possess good communication skills and should have coordinated with clients, projects, procurement, construction, vendors and other engineering disciplines.
• Should possess Good understanding of Piping Material cycle in a project, contingency philosophy, Knowledge of Material Control cycle and MTO work processes

Other Job Requirements

Should have hands on experience in –

• Preparation/Review of Piping specifications, pipe classes, pipe wall thickness including external pressure & branch chart calculations.
• Piping material selection and developing piping service class index in consultation with corrosion engineer and process engineer.
• Preparation/Review of datasheets for all piping special items like special valves, strainers, traps, flame arrestors etc.
• Preparation/Review of RFQ, TBE, vendor data for all piping bulks, valves, and SP items.
• Material Control Activities.
