Job summary

Ramboll India is hiring a Piping Engineer for District Energy in Chennai. You will lead piping packages across ISBL/OSBL facilities, deliver complete 3D models and drawings, and coordinate with vendors and disciplines to meet project objectives.

Ideal candidates have 6–7 years in chemical/process plants, strong knowledge of FEL 0–3, and hands-on Plant 3D/Revit/Navis modeling, with a focus on district energy and pipeline networks. This is an on-site Chennai role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a reputed university.
  • 6–7 years of global multidiscipline engineering & design experience in chemical/process plants including Greenfield/Brownfield.
  • Strong knowledge of FEL 0–3 phases and piping design for ISBL/OSBL facilities.
  • Familiar with international codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, ISO).
  • Hands-on with Plant Design/Layout and 3D modeling (Navis, Plant 3D, Revit).
  • Experience in District Energy and pipeline networks; capable of leading project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead piping packages: design basis, specs, material classes, data sheets, TBEs, MTOs.
  • Deliver 3D models and drawings: plots, layouts, isometrics, pipe supports.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and vendors; interface with other disciplines.
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery; support project objectives and client reviews.

You will join our Energy Market Unit

As our new Piping Engineer in our energy unit, you will join a growing team of highly experienced professionals in Chennai. Our services encompass owner's engineering, FEL 0 to 3 phases, and detailed engineering for the process, chemical, petrochemical, metal industries, and gas infrastructure sectors. Serving global clients, your key role will be to lead multidisciplinary projects, deliver high-quality technical solutions, and establish yourself as a trusted advisor to our clients.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Understand client needs and contract requirements for project execution
  • Deliver multiple projects with minimal support as part of Global Engineering
  • Responsible for delivering complete Piping packages - design basis, technical specifications, piping material classes, datasheets, specifications, MTOs, TBEs, VDRs, etc.,
  • Responsible for delivering complete 3D model and drawings including plot plans, equipment layouts, piping layouts, isometrics and pipe support drawings
  • Be part of the team to achieve project objectives, resolve technical issues
  • Liaise with OEMs, review vendor drawings and documentation
  • Interface with other disciplines and stakeholders to meet project requirements
  • Liaise with external stakeholders like process licensors, OEMs, clients, and certification agencies
  • Ensure quality of work as per project requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from reputed university or college
  • 6 to 7 years of global multidiscipline engineering & design experience in chemical / process plants / Petrochemical plants including both Greenfield and Brownfield.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of industrial engineering phases (FEL 0 to 3)
  • Experience in piping related to various process equipment both ISBL and OSBL
  • Familiar with international codes and standards like ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, and environmental and statutory regulations in Europe.
  • Strong knowledge in Piping Material Specifications, data sheets, specifications, TBEs, Inspection & Testing requirements, painting and insulation requirements, heat tracing, etc.
  • Must have a sound technical knowledge on Plant Design / Layout / Piping Design - in piping routing, layout, and support concepts within confined ISBL environment and OSBL facilities.
  • Experience in District Energy, Pipeline networks (above ground, underground, buried, distribution) and heat exchange stations
  • Strong knowledge of 3D model review software like Navis. Handled 3D model reviews.
  • Skills in aiding client with solutions review and decision making
  • Having experience in plant operations, trouble shooting, facility improvement, debottlenecking will be a plus.
  • Experience in Decarbonization, Sustainable initiatives, Life extension is preferred
  • Handson experience of 3D Model software like Autodesk Plant 3D and Revit. Knowledge of other 3D software like E3D will be an added advantage
  • Handson experience with point cloud conversion to Revit / Plant 3d will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge in Plant 3d ADMIN & BIM related activity will be an added advantage
