Job summary

Ramboll India in Chennai is seeking a Piping Engineer to join the Energy Market Unit. You will lead multidisciplinary piping and layout design for process, chemical, and petrochemical projects, coordinating with global teams.

You will deliver complete piping packages, review vendor Drawings, and support project teams across Ramboll’s offices while advancing decarbonization initiatives and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a reputed university.
  • 6–7 years of global multidiscipline engineering & design experience in chemical/ process plants including Greenfield and Brownfield.
  • Solid understanding of FEL 0 to 3, ISBL/OSBL piping, and international codes.
  • Strong knowledge of piping materials, data sheets, TBEs, and testing requirements.
  • Experience with Plant Design, layout, and piping routing in ISBL/OSBL environments.
  • Familiar with District Energy, pipelines, heat exchange stations, and BIM tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Autodesk Plant 3D, Revit, and Navis; ability to review 3D models.

Responsibilities

  • Understand client needs and contract requirements for project execution.
  • Deliver multiple projects with minimal support as part of Global Engineering.
  • Develop piping & pipeline distribution design packages across phases.
  • Deliver complete piping packages with design basis, specs, TBEs, data sheets, MTOs, and more.
  • Produce complete 3D model and drawings including plot plans and layouts.
  • Liaise with OEMs, vendors, and clients; ensure quality per project requirements.

You will join our Energy Market Unit

As our new Piping Engineer in our energy unit, you will join a growing team of highly experienced professionals in Chennai. Our services encompass owner's engineering, FEL 0 to 3 phases, and detailed engineering for the process, chemical, petrochemical, metal industries, and gas infrastructure sectors. Serving global clients, your key role will be to lead multidisciplinary projects, deliver high-quality technical solutions, and establish yourself as a trusted advisor to our clients.

Job Description

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Understand client needs and contract requirements for project execution
  • Deliver multiple projects with minimal support as part of Global Engineering
  • Develop piping & pipeline distribution network design packages across various engineering phases
  • Responsible for delivering complete Piping packages - design basis, technical specifications, piping material classes, datasheets, specifications, MTOs, TBEs, VDRs, etc.,
  • Responsible for delivering complete 3D model and drawings including plot plans, equipment layouts, piping layouts, isometrics and pipe support drawings
  • Be part of the team to achieve project objectives, resolve technical issues
  • Liaise with OEMs, review vendor drawings and documentation
  • Interface with other disciplines and stakeholders to meet project requirements
  • Liaise with external stakeholders like process licensors, OEMs, clients, and certification agencies
  • Ensure quality of work as per project requirements
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from reputed university or college
  • 6 to 7 years of global multidiscipline engineering & design experience in chemical / process plants / Petrochemical plants including both Greenfield and Brownfield.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of industrial engineering phases (FEL 0 to 3)
  • Experience in piping related to various process equipment both ISBL and OSBL
  • Familiar with international codes and standards like ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, and environmental and statutory regulations in Europe.
  • Strong knowledge in Piping Material Specifications, data sheets, specifications, TBEs, Inspection & Testing requirements, painting and insulation requirements, heat tracing, etc.
  • Must have a sound technical knowledge on Plant Design / Layout / Piping Design - in piping routing, layout, and support concepts within confined ISBL environment and OSBL facilities.
  • Experience in District Energy, Pipeline networks (above ground, underground, buried, distribution) and heat exchange stations
  • Strong knowledge of 3D model review software like Navis. Handled 3D model reviews.
  • Skills in aiding client with solutions review and decision making
  • Having experience in plant operations, trouble shooting, facility improvement, debottlenecking will be a plus.
  • Experience in Decarbonization, Sustainable initiatives, Life extension is preferred
  • Handson experience of 3D Model software like Autodesk Plant 3D and Revit. Knowledge of other 3D software like E3D will be an added advantage
  • Handson experience with point cloud conversion to Revit / Plant 3d will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge in Plant 3d ADMIN & BIM related activity will be an added advantage
