Job summary

Kaveesha Engineers is seeking a Piping Design Engineer for boiler piping in Hyderabad. The role focuses on design, routing, and 3D modeling of boiler and power plant piping systems, ensuring compliance with codes and project specs.

Applicants should have 5–12 years in piping design for power/boiler projects, with experience in high-pressure/high-temperature piping and EPC environments. On-site work at Hyderabad facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 5–12 years of relevant piping design/engineering experience (Power plants, Boiler projects).
• Experience in high-pressure/high-temperature boiler piping preferred.
• Experience with multidisciplinary EPC teams desirable.

Job Title: Piping Design Engineer Boiler Piping
Department: Engineering / Piping

Reporting To: HOD

Job Purpose

Responsible for carrying out piping design and engineering activities for boiler and power plant piping systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable international codes and standards, safety requirements, constructability, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute piping design and engineering activities for boiler and power plant projects from concept/ basic engineering through detailed engineering.
• Develop piping layouts and routing for high-pressure and high-temperature boiler piping systems.
• Design and route piping associated with:
  • Main Steam
  • Hot Reheat/ Cold Reheat
  • Feedwater
  • Boiler Feedwater
  • Blowdown
  • Drains & Vents
  • Boiler startup and auxiliary systems
  • Safety valve and relief valve piping
  • Attemperator/ Desuperheater systems
  • Chemical dosing and sampling systems
  • Auxiliary steam and utility systems
• Review and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, process data sheets, line lists and project specifications.
• Develop piping layouts considering thermal expansion, flexibility, accessibility, operability, maintainability, safety and constructability.
• Carry out piping routing and 3D modelling using PDMS/ E3D/ SP3D / Plant 3D/ AutoCAD or equivalent design tools.
• Prepare and review:
  • Piping General Arrangement drawings
  • Piping Isometrics
  • Equipment arrangement drawings
  • Piping layouts
  • MTO/ BOM
  • Piping support drawings
  • Specialty item lists
  • Steam/drain/vent routing drawings
• Coordinate with other disciplines.
• Coordinate piping connections with boiler pressure parts, headers, valves, turbines, pumps, heat exchangers and other equipment.
• Work closely with the Piping Stress Engineering team to develop flexible and stress-compliant piping layouts.
• Incorporate stress analysis recommendations, support requirements and nozzle load limitations into piping design.
• Develop and review piping supports, including guides, anchors, stops, spring supports and constant load supports.
• Ensure proper consideration of thermal expansion and movement of high-temperature piping systems.
• Review vendor drawings and engineering documents for boilers, valves, pumps, heat exchangers and other packages.
• Participate in 3D model reviews, design reviews, HAZOP, constructability reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
• Ensure piping design complies with applicable codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section I, Section VIII, API and project/client standards, as applicable.
• Resolve technical queries and provide engineering support to procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning teams.
• Review and incorporate client/ PMC comments into engineering deliverables.
• Support preparation of piping material specifications, valve specifications and technical requisitions where required.
• Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within the agreed schedule, budget and quality requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers/ designers and support development of standard design practices.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of boiler piping and power plant piping systems.
• Understanding of high-pressure/ high-temperature piping design.
• Knowledge of piping materials, valves, fittings, specialties and piping components.
• Good understanding of piping flexibility and thermal expansion.
• Familiarity with piping support design and support philosophy.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, vendor documents and process data.
• Knowledge of ASME B31.1 Power Piping and relevant ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements.
• Experience with PDMS/ E3D/ SP3D/ Plant 3D/ AutoCAD.
• Understanding of piping stress analysis and interaction with stress engineers.
• Good knowledge of engineering deliverables and EPC project workflows.
