Responsibilities

• Continuum of Care: Assess present problem and current functional status; plan, implement, and evaluate all treatment procedures.
• Leadership and Management: Participate in continuing education; implement departmental policies; supervise students and staff; lead team activities.
• Information Management: Maintain patient information; record statistics; document clinical notes within 24 hours; ensure IT policy compliance.
• Safe Practice and Environment: Adhere to safe work practices; train staff in safe patient handling; follow infection control policies.
• Improving Performance: Pursue professional development; contribute to quality improvement activities; participate in ongoing education.

Job description

Job Objective:

To plan, supervise & deliver highest standard of physiotherapy services to patients. Maximizes a patient's functional independence through thorough assessment, treatment planning, treatment implementation and treatment evaluation & communicate assessment and treatment outcomes with the interdisciplinary team through documentation and team meetings.

Job Responsibilities:

1) Continuum of Care

• Ascertain appropriate information regarding the present problem


• Assess the patients current functional status


• Planning all treatment procedures


• Treatment implementation


• Treatment evaluation


• Ensures safe and effective discharge planning for all patients

2) Leadership and Management

• Participates in continuing education to update skills and knowledge in order to provide optimum level of patient care and student supervision.


• Ensures implementation of departmental policies and procedures


• Participates in Departmental and Organizational meetings, other meetings as required


• Actively participate in team activities


• Organizes and implement in-service training sessions for staff, the physiotherapy assistant and volunteers


• Teaches appropriately and supervises physiotherapy students and provide regular feedback and documentation of the clinical placement required

3) Information Management

• Manages and maintains information relevant to physiotherapy services


• Records accurate statistics within the last working day of each pay fortnight or as appropriate


• Notes written in patients records according to Policy and Procedure manual within 24 hours of service


• Adheres to the policies for use of Information Technology


• Supervises the recording of statistics and documentation by the physiotherapy students


• Providing home care program discharge instructions


• Documenting the patient details in register and entering the clinical notes in the HIS.


• Communicating with Consultant regarding the progress of the patient if required.

4) Safe Practice and Environment

• Adheres to safe work practices as per departmental and Medicitys Health Policy and Procedures


• Teaches and maintains safe patient handling practices through skills training of relevant staff and carers


• Be aware of safety/emergency procedures within the department and hospital. Attend annual fire safety & Emergency training, CPR, pool rescue and infection control in services.


• Adheres to infection control policies & procedures


• Organizes appropriate maintenance of Physiotherapy equipment as required


• Creates and maintain a work environment which is safe for staff, patients and visitors

5) Improving Performance

• Pursues actively professional development and implements quality improvement practices


• Ensures continuous Quality Improvement through high quality work practices


• Assists in the implementation of department quality improvement activities


• Active participation in professional ongoing education and review of current literature


• Participates in regular in-service education


• Participates in regular supervision sessions with direct clinical supervisor


• Any other duties given by the Chairman- Institute of Neurosciences
