Job summary

Tech Mahindra is seeking a Wireless Software Engineer (5G NR PHY/L1) to design and optimize real-time baseband software for our wireless emulation platform. You will implement high-performance C/C++ solutions and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to translate evolving 3GPP standards into robust software.

Ideal candidates have a Master’s in a related field and strong debugging and MATLAB proficiency, with a track record of delivering high-quality software on schedule in a multi-site

Wireless Software Engineer - 5G NR PHY/L1

Design and develop Layer 1 (PHY) software for a leading 3GPP 5G NR and LTE mobile device emulation platform used by wireless infrastructure vendors, chipset manufacturers, and mobile operators worldwide. The role focuses on implementing and optimizing real-time baseband algorithms, debugging complex wireless system behavior, and delivering innovative test solutions that enable next-generation wireless technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize software aligned with 3GPP 5G NR and LTE Layer 1 algorithms and procedures.
• Develop high-performance, optimized, real-time modem processing solutions using C/C++.
• Translate evolving requirements from 3GPP specifications, operator acceptance criteria, and industry initiatives into robust software solutions.
• Collaborate with systems, protocol, RF, product, and customer-facing teams to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Own feature development from specification through implementation, validation, release, and customer support.
• Analyze large-scale logs and system traces to identify root causes and implement robust corrective actions.
• Contribute to automation, regression testing, development frameworks, and engineering process improvements.
• Participate actively in Agile development activities and support team success through technical collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Validate solutions using commercial wireless test equipment and lab infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience developing or optimizing real-time wireless communication systems.
• Ability to excel in a multi-site, diverse team
• Solid understanding of 3GPP 5G NR and/or LTE physical layer concepts.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including analysis of complex logs and traces.
• Experience with MATLAB and simulation-based algorithm development.
• Familiarity with laboratory test equipment and wireless validation methodologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality software on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Wireless Communications, Signal Processing, or a related discipline.
• Experience developing commercial 5G NR or LTE modem software.
• Knowledge of MIMO, beamforming, scheduling, channel modeling, and RF impairments.
• Experience with performance optimization on multi-core CPU architectures.
• Familiarity with O-RAN architectures and wireless infrastructure testing.

Experience working directly with customers to reproduce and resolve field issues.
