Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of safe, evidence-based and compassionate nursing care to all patients.
  • Monitor nursing standards, patient outcomes and quality of care within the assigned wards.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and review patient care, documentation and nursing practices.
  • Ensure appropriate assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions.
  • Ensure timely escalation of deteriorating patients and clinical concerns to the treating team.
  • Promote effective communication with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure compliance with medication administration, patient identification, fall prevention and other patient-safety protocols.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of nurses, nursing assistants and ward support staff.
  • Prepare and manage duty rosters according to patient acuity, workload and staffing requirements.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and appropriate skill mix across shifts.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, performance and professional conduct.
  • Conduct staff counselling, performance reviews and competency assessments.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate continuous professional development.
  • Support orientation and induction of newly recruited nursing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital nursing policies, SOPs and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor nursing quality indicators and initiate corrective/preventive actions where required.
  • Participate in clinical audits, nursing audits and quality-improvement projects.
  • Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation.
  • Monitor and report incidents, near misses, medication errors, falls, pressure injuries and other adverse events.
  • Promote infection-prevention and control practices within the wards.
  • Ensure compliance with hand hygiene, biomedical waste management and isolation precautions.
  • Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the assigned wards.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers and discharges with relevant departments.
  • Monitor availability and appropriate utilization of beds.
  • Ensure adequate availability of medicines, consumables, linen, equipment and other ward supplies.
  • Monitor equipment functionality and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain appropriate cleanliness, safety and environmental standards within the wards.
  • Coordinate with housekeeping, pharmacy, laboratory, dietary, biomedical and other support departments.
  • Maintain completeness and accuracy of nursing records and registers.
  • Maintain required statutory, hospital and nursing documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable hospital accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in internal and external inspections and accreditation assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
  • Act as a role model and promote professional nursing practice.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate organizational updates.
  • Address staff and patient concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with doctors, allied health professionals and hospital administration.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline and a positive work environment.
  • Escalate operational and clinical issues to senior nursing leadership in a timely manner.
