Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Nuclear Safety Engineer in its Nuclear & Power Division to design complex safety cases and protect client assets. The role emphasizes safety-focused, regulated environments and requires strong communication and technical reporting skills.

The candidate will perform hazard analyses, quantify risks (QRA/PSA) and contribute to ALARP assessments across design, operation, commissioning and decommissioning phases.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in nuclear safety case (hazard analysis, risk assessment).
• Bachelors in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering. Masters in nuclear engineering advantageous.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and report-writing skills.
• Experience in safety case production and/or hazard analysis.

Responsibilities

• Produce nuclear safety case documentation and supporting analyses.
• Support safety case development during design, operation, commissioning and decommissioning.
• Contribute to bids & proposals and safety initiatives.
• Liaise with operators, designers and clients to build strong working relationships.

Job Description Overview

Join us as a Nuclear Safety Engineer in our Nuclear & Power Division and play a vital role designing complex new schemes to protect our clients' assets. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all career plan in AtkinsRéalis. The role will entail supporting safety case development during the design, operation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and to produce all nuclear safety documentation as part of the Site Licence Conditions. This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.

Your role

The domain of the nuclear safety case production offers opportunities to thrive in the following skill sets: Hazard/fault identification studies e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN, FMEA, etc. Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA). Deterministic safety assessments (DSA). Probabilistic safety assessments (PSA). Nuclear Safety case development and As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) assessment. Other key aspects of the role will include: Assisting in the production of bids and proposals and implementing and contributing to safety initiatives. You will work within teams that liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them.

About you

We’re looking for a candidate with > 5 years of working experience in the nuclear safety case skill sets noted above. The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering. The master’s degree in these disciplines and nuclear engineering is advantages, however not a requirement for the role. Having excellent communication, presentation and problem-solving skills Technical practitioner able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills. Experience in safety case production and/or hazard analysis. Able to produce and review/correct high-quality technical reports.
