Job summary

Weekday AI (YC W21) is seeking an experienced ML Lead to drive RegTech-focused ML initiatives, build a new ML team, and mentor engineers. The role combines hands-on model development with leadership responsibilities to deliver scalable, compliant ML-powered solutions across multiple fintech contexts.

The candidate will own end-to-end ML projects from inception through deployment, promote a culture of mentorship, and collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to align with regulatory

• 7+ years of experience in ML/AI with a proven record of deploying models

Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative Machine Learning (ML) Lead with an entrepreneurial spirit, who can excel both as an individual contributor (IC) and as a team leader. The ideal candidate will lead ML initiatives, drive innovation, and build a new ML team while promoting a culture of mentorship and collaboration. This position also includes exploring and developing regulatory technology (RegTech) solutions, delivering impactful ML-powered systems, and managing projects from inception through deployment.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Machine Learning Development

• Design, build, and implement machine learning models for a variety of applications, such as RegTech solutions, predictive analytics, natural language processing, and computer vision
• Foster innovation by testing and applying state-of-the-art algorithms and frameworks to address complex challenges
• Enhance models to ensure scalability, efficiency, and suitability for real-time deployment
  
  

ML Operations (MLOps)

• Create and oversee comprehensive ML pipelines covering data acquisition, preprocessing, model training, deployment, and ongoing monitoring
• Adopt MLOps best practices, including continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), model versioning, and production monitoring systems
• Guarantee that deployed models are robust and scalable to maintain consistent performance in production environments
  
  

Team Leadership and Mentorship

• Establish and manage a high-performing machine learning team from inception, setting clear objectives and cultivating a collaborative and innovative culture
• Provide mentorship by assisting team members with technical difficulties, professional growth, and adherence to industry standards

Initiative and Innovation

• Proactively take responsibility for projects, seeking opportunities to deliver value through ML-based solutions
• Investigate and develop innovative machine learning techniques specifically designed to address challenges in regulatory technology (RegTech) and compliance

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure machine learning initiatives align with business objectives and compliance requirements

Research and Documentation

• Conduct research to advance the use of machine learning within RegTech and other critical domains
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of models, pipelines, and workflows to ensure clarity, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing
• Communicate findings and progress clearly and effectively to stakeholders and leadership

As an ML Lead, you will address some of the most pressing and impactful challenges, such as:

• Identity Fraud Detection: Utilizing machine learning to identify and prevent fraudulent activities including AML, identity document forgery, and biometric face recognition fraud
• Intelligent Document Processing: Developing systems that accurately extract, classify, parse, and analyze information from complex documents, enabling scalable automation across fintech and other industries
• Motor Insurance & Finance: Creating ML-based solutions for policy generation, fraud prevention, automating vehicle claims processing, reducing delays, and increasing accuracy
• Contract Lifecycle Management: Applying natural language processing (NLP) to optimize legal contract management tasks such as automatic clause extraction, compliance verification, and contract analytics
• User Knowledge Graph: Leveraging graph databases and anomaly detection techniques to gain actionable insights into user behaviors, generate trust scores for users and their associated documents, and improve decision-making for personalized and secure services
  
  

Key Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related discipline (PhD preferred)
• Over 7 years of experience in ML/AI, with a proven history of successful model deployment
• Preferred background or interest in RegTech/Fintech and applying ML solutions in these areas
• More than 3 years of experience in team leadership or mentorship, with demonstrated capability in team growth
  
  

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with machine learning frameworks and tools
• Deep understanding of MLOps platforms (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow) and cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Experienced in Python programming and familiar with big data technologies such as Spark and Hadoop
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance systems is a plus
• Experience working with unstructured document data is advantageous
