Woodland Park School District RE-2 is seeking a Support Staff/Special Education Assistant to provide instructional support under supervision of licensed staff. The role involves assisting students with special needs in academic, social, and behavioral objectives in a least restrictive environment.

You will work with diverse students and staff, participate in data collection, and support in various settings including classroom, lunchroom, and field trips. Must lift up to 50 pounds as required.

Qualifications

Position Purpose

Provide instructional support and assistance in meeting the educational needs of students, under the direction and immediate supervision of a licensed school professional.

Services provided vary based on Individual Education Plans (IEP) and requirements to provide services in the least restrictive environment.

Work with students with emotional and behavioral challenges; works closely with the SPED Team.

A relationship-based individual to support students with special needs and assist them in achieving educational, social, and behavioral objectives. Must be able to work with a variety of students and adults in a school setting and demonstrate ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. All applicants must be able to

  • perform simple clerical tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy
  • operate school/office equipment to include computers, communication systems, and audiovisual equipment
  • take and record daily data on student growth
  • perform physical labor as required
  • Compensation (based on 100% FTE): $15.89- $24.60/hour
  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 37.5
  • Number of Days per Year: 181

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support instructional program and provide instructional assistance for students in individual, small and large group settings.
  • Implement approved modifications and/or accommodations of curriculum.
  • Supervise and facilitate student in the classroom and a variety of settings that may include the lunchroom, playground, field trips, extra-curricular activities, on-the-job training.
  • Help and support student with special needs which may include emotional issues, self‑help skills fine and gross motor, visual, auditory, physical, medical and health needs, educational, prevocational and life skills in a least restrictive environment.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other special and regular educators and administrators with regard to academic behavioral issues and observations. Provide suggestions, feedback and support to building staff and administrators regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning.
  • Assist the school professional by helping with data collection, updating records and documentation while helping maintain student files and class records. Maintain compliance with confidentiality laws including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA.)
  • Attend and participate in district and building in‑service opportunities and committee work.
  • Must be able to work in a one‑to‑one situation with a student.
  • Ability to implement academic curriculum to meet Individual Educational Plan.
  • Must be able to work with multiple students in varying situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • All special education positions require the ability to safely lift 50 pounds each in a two person lift.

  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
