Job Description
Position Requirements
About the role We are seeking a Middle Engineer with deep expertise in C/C++ systems programming, data plane forwarding, and enterprise network routing to join our core engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance networking software and firmware running on enterprise-grade edge and gateway appliances. You will work closely with architecture, software, hardware, and QA teams to build scalable, resilient, and high-throughput networking solutions. The position combines low-level systems programming, embedded Linux kernel networking, and modern dynamic routing protocols to deliver next-generation networking platforms at scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance data plane components, forwarding pipelines, and system daemons using C and Modern C++ (more C++ compa ratio).
- Develop, extend, and optimize modular packet-processing architectures and Linux kernel networking paths.
- Implement and enhance enterprise routing and L2/L3 capabilities, including BGP, OSPF, VRF, LACP (802.3ad), VLANs, and Dual-Stack IPv4/IPv6.
- Integrate, configure, and maintain open-source routing suites and daemons (such as BIRD and FRR).
- Diagnose and resolve complex networking, forwarding, and performance bottlenecks across user space and kernel space.
- Profile system performance, memory utilization, and throughput, implementing optimizations for multi-core hardware platforms.
- Collaborate with QA, Systems Test, and DevOps teams to define testing strategies, automated validation harnesses, and release-gating criteria.
- Participate in technical design reviews, architectural discussions, and code reviews to enforce software engineering best practices.
- Maintain development and build workflows using embedded build systems and CI/CD automation pipelines.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, ideally in Embedded Systems, Network Firmware, or Data Plane Development.
- Strong proficiency in C and Modern C++ (C++14/C++17) with a deep understanding of memory management, concurrency, and data structures.
- Solid experience with Linux Kernel Networking (e.g., netfilter/iptables, network namespaces, socket programming, routing tables, and interface management).
- Strong foundation in L2/L3 networking protocols and dynamic routing:
- Dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and routing daemons (BIRD / FRR).
- VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) and network segmentation.
- Dual-Stack IPv4 / IPv6 networking (SLAAC, DHCPv6, NDP, Neighbor Discovery).
- L2 link aggregation, VLAN tagging, and bridging.
- Practical experience working in Embedded Linux development environments (cross-compilation, toolchains, POSIX APIs).
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using system logs, core dumps, and packet analyzers (Wireshark, tcpdump).
- Familiarity with version control workflows using Git, Gerrit, or GitLab.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Firmware & Embedded Systems experience is highly appreciated.
- Experience with FD.io VPP (Vector Packet Processing), DPDK, or vector-based packet forwarding graph architectures.
- Experience with modular packet router frameworks (e.g., Click Modular Router or similar packet graph frameworks).
- Knowledge of VPN and secure overlay technologies (IPsec / IKEv2, secure tunnels).
- Experience with embedded Linux build systems such as Yocto / BitBake, CMake, or Make.
- Scripting capabilities in Python or Bash for rapid prototyping, diagnostic tooling, and test automation.
- Understanding of multi-WAN architectures, dynamic path selection, and policy-based routing.
