Job summary

PwC is seeking a Sr. Database Administrator to independently manage SQL Server (OnPrem and Azure) and Oracle database environments for client engagements. The role requires driving performance optimization, change delivery and junior team development while ensuring SLA and governance adherence.

The candidate will own end-to-end database operations, lead incident resolution, plan upgrades, implement DR/runbooks, and mentor Associate DBAs. Night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience with Database Technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement performance tuning solutions and execution plan reviews.
  • Plan and execute changes, schema upgrades, patch cycles, migrations.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery and DR runbooks; conduct recovery tests.
  • Configure and manage Always On Availability Groups and Data Guard/RAC environments.
  • Mentor Associate DBAs and produce health reports for clients and stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce toil.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sr. Database Administrator to independently manage the SQL Server (OnPrem and Azure) and Oracle database environments for one or more client engagements, acting as the primary technical point of contact for day-to-day operations. The role drives performance optimization, change delivery and junior team development while maintaining rigorous adherence to SLA and governance standards

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own end-to-end database operations for assigned client engagements, covering SQL Server and Oracle production and non-production environments.
  • Lead incident resolution for P1/P2 database issues, coordinating with application, infrastructure and vendor teams to restore service within SLA.
  • Design and implement performance tuning solutions including index/performance optimization, query rewrites, wait-statistics analysis and execution plan review.
  • Plan and execute database changes, schema changes, version upgrades, patch cycles and migration activities; following the change management procedures.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery and DR runbooks; conduct periodic recovery tests and report outcomes.
  • Configure and manage Always ON Availability Groups (SQL Server) and Oracle Data Guard / RAC environments.
  • Conduct capacity planning reviews, forecast storage and compute requirements, and advise clients on growth management.
  • Mentor and technically guide Associate DBAs, reviewing their work and supporting skill development.
  • Produce weekly and monthly operational health reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and drive process improvement opportunities to reduce toil and improve service quality.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in computer science or related technology field preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience on Database Technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Shell scripting
  • Strong working knowledge of ITIL principles and ITSM
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
