Job description

The Medical Social Worker will be responsible for patient counselling, social support coordination, financial assistance guidance, discharge support, patient-family communication, and welfare service coordination at SMS Hospital, Ahmedabad. This requires Graduate or Diploma qualification with 1–2 years of experience in medical social work, patient support, or hospital counselling.

• Assess patient and family social, emotional, financial, and support needs.
• Provide counselling and guidance to patients and relatives during treatment.
• Coordinate with doctors, nursing, billing, TPA, administration, and patient care teams.
• Support patients in understanding hospital process, treatment journey, and available assistance.
• Help eligible patients with welfare schemes, charity support, documentation, or financial guidance.
• Maintain patient counselling records, case notes, support documents, and follow-up details.
• Communicate sensitively with patients facing critical illness, long treatment, or financial difficulty.
• Coordinate with NGOs, trusts, donors, or social support agencies when applicable.
