Job summary

Progspectra in Chennai is seeking a dedicated Medical Coder for an on-site role. You will review clinical documentation and assign CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes in line with payer and regulatory guidelines.

You'll work with billing and RCM teams on denial management, corrections, and resubmissions, and clarify documentation with providers. CPC/CCS or equivalent certification is highly preferred.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Medical Coder role based in Chennai. The Medical Coder will review clinical documentation and assign accurate CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes in line with payer and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities include validating codes for medical necessity, ensuring proper charge capture, and preparing claims for submission to support the full revenue cycle. The role involves working closely with billing and RCM teams on denial management, corrections, and resubmissions, as well as clarifying documentation with providers when needed. The Medical Coder will also maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding standards, payer rules, and compliance requirements to help optimize reimbursement and reduce errors.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of medical coding systems and guidelines, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Understanding of revenue cycle management processes, including charge entry, claims submission, denial management, and payment posting.
• Ability to read and interpret medical records, clinical documentation, and physician notes accurately.
• Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to identify coding inconsistencies or documentation gaps.
• Proficiency with medical billing and coding software or practice management/EHR systems.
• Familiarity with US healthcare regulations, payer policies, and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid rules).
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and RCM team members.
• Relevant certification such as CPC, CCS, or equivalent, and prior experience in medical coding or RCM is highly preferred.
• Ability to work on-site in Chennai, manage time effectively, and meet productivity and accuracy targets.
