Job description

We are Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world.

Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries.

The Engineer IV - Mechanical is responsible for leading assigned product development projects through mechanical design, engineering analysis, validation, and cross-functional collaboration. This role works closely with engineering, operations (including industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service, product management, and marketing to develop robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective product solutions. The position has responsibility for front-end technology development, system architecture, thermal analysis, design validation, and root cause resolution for complex liquid cooled electric generator systems.

Major Responsibilities
  • Designs, develops, validates, and supports the release of new products, systems, and component technologies for liquid-cooled home standby generators, with responsibility for technical execution from concept through production release.

  • Defines functional requirements and develops optimized engineering solutions through the design, integration, testing, and evaluation of components and systems, including assessment of performance, cost, reliability, risk, and safety.

  • Plans, executes, and evaluates fit-for-use testing and validation activities, and supports development of product specifications, validation plans, material specifications, and bills of materials.

  • Uses CAD and CAE tools to develop and analyze designs, create detailed engineering drawings and models, and assess mechanical system performance and improvement opportunities.

  • Partners cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability, support product development activities, and help achieve project targets related to performance, cost, schedule, and design requirements.

  • Develops risk assessments and DFMEA/FMEA documentation and provides recommendations during engineering design reviews.

  • Supports prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities, and drives corrective actions necessary to meet functional, performance, and safety requirements.

  • Investigates and resolves technical issues, collaborates with cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis, and escalates high-risk or high-impact issues appropriately to engineering leadership.

  • Travels to Generac facilities, suppliers, or test locations as required to support project and business needs. Travel may include domestic and limited international travel, as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved institution
  • 6+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in product design and development.
  • Experience developing component- and system-level test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Strong knowledge of design documentation, layout, prototype verification testing, and engineering calculations.
  • Experience performing mechanical analysis, simulation, and thermal analysis.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling tools such as Creo or SolidWorks.
  • Experience creating, checking and approving engineering drawings, GD&T, and mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Strong knowledge of common manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, castings, plastics, machining, and welding.
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with internal combustion engines, generators, or related engine-driven products.
  • Ability to manage detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy while supporting multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information effectively to technical and non‑technical audiences, including leadership.
  • Experience with DFMEA, design reviews, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
  • Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional global teams.
  • Experience with engineering change processes, BOM management, and drawing release.
