In this role, as a Mechanical Design Engineer with a focus on Global Mining and Industrial Fluid Components for our cutting-edge cooling systems and high-pressure pump equipment, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and engineering innovative solutions for mining and industry. This pivotal role will require you to leverage your expertise in mechanical and hydraulic engineering to drive product excellence and support the growth of our business in India and APAC. This position is located in Bangalore, India.

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

  • Design & Development Innovation
    • Lead the design and development of new and existing high-pressure pump systems tailored specifically for the mining sector, pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and document (using SolidWorks and AutoCAD) innovative pump products and systems, ensuring compliance with international standards like MA, underground explosion proof regulations, Pressure Equipment Directive, and ASME.
    • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including Bills of Materials, General Arrangement drawings, P&IDs, O&M manuals, and manufacturing specifications, fostering seamless communication across the supply chain.
    • Develop and implement technical training programs to enhance the skills of our manufacturing, sales, and service teams.
  • Project Management Mastery
    • Proactively manage and optimize product development projects, leveraging advanced project management tools to track progress, identify risks, and ensure timely delivery.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to create and execute detailed project plans, facilitating seamless coordination and communication among departments.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by leading change management initiatives and ensuring all relevant personnel are kept informed and engaged.
  • Product Support & Optimization
    • Drive product rationalization and standardization efforts, reducing costs and enhancing reliability by optimizing existing designs and components.
    • Work closely with the engineering and sourcing teams to identify and implement cost reduction strategies, ensuring our offerings remain competitive in the market.
    • Serve as a bridge between the UK design team and the China operations, ensuring seamless transfer of knowledge and best practices.
    • Proactively identify and promote upgrade opportunities for existing systems, enhancing their performance and ensuring they are equipped with the latest technology.

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Hydraulic Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, and distribution operations within the mining or industrial industries
  • In-depth knowledge of underground coal mining systems and their specific requirements
  • Proficient in SAP or similar ERP systems, PDM or data management systems for document control
  • Expertise in the design of positive displacement plunger pumps or similar, with a solid understanding of hydraulic and mechanical principles
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Proven track record in project management, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Thorough understanding of MA, underground explosion proof standards, and international pressure equipment regulations (PED, ASME)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • A proactive, self-driven individual with strong leadership qualities, able to work autonomously and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to break down complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide actionable solutions
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages
  • Experience in designing high-pressure hydraulic systems exceeding 100 bar
  • Knowledge of industrial and mining-specific regulations and standards in China and internationally
  • Familiarity with international safety standards and practices in the mining industry
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, coupled with a creative mindset
  • Experience in leading cross-cultural teams and collaborating with international stakeholders
