Job summary

GE Vernova, Inc. in Australia is seeking a Mechanical MCU Technician to safely execute Main Component Upgrade and Uptower Repair on wind turbines.

You will work in small hands-on teams, operate cranes, inspect parts, and ensure compliance with GE work instructions and EHS policies. Ideal candidates hold a Diploma/ITI in Mechanical or Electrical, with 5+ years in wind energy, and strong fault-finding and data-reporting skills; experience with MS Office, Tableau a plus.

Qualifications

• Diploma or ITI in Mechanical or Electrical from an accredited college or university.
• More than 5 years’ experience with minimum of 3 years in Wind Energy field.
• Proficient in fault finding electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment; experience in wind farm operations and maintenance; heavy lift main component exchange.
• Skilled in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced Excel (pivot tables); Access; Tableau.

Responsibilities

• Perform MCU/UTR on-site execution within small hands-on work groups.
• Operate cranes as directed by MCU Lead and coordinate with GE teams and contractors.
• Inspect major parts for damage and correct configuration for turbine.
• Verify inventory tooling and parts required during MCU operations.
• Follow GE manuals and work instructions; complete documentation and reports.
• Ensure data collection for reports; adhere to JSA, LOTO, EHS policies.
• Report safety issues through GE reporting systems; engage with engineering for technical resolutions.
• Conform to compliance; participate in roster for weekends/nights; perform high voltage switching per site procedures.

Job Description Summary

The Main Component Upgrade (MCU) Technician (Mechanical) will work within the existing team in the safe execution of Main Component Upgrade and Uptower Repair work on Wind Turbines across Australia on GE Vernova Onshore Wind Services, as directed by the MCU Lead.

Essential Responsibilities

Work within small hands-on work groups during on site execution of MCU/UTR work. Execute MCU work as directed by the MCU Lead, involving major crane operations using GE MCU teams, local GE employees, third party contractors, and crane vendors. Inspect all major parts to ensure no damage and that they are the right type or configuration for the turbine. Check and validate Inventory Tooling, Parts, any other items required during MCU operations. Interpret the requirements of GE manuals, specifications, bulletins, and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GE work instructions. Complete all the necessary documentation with respect to MCU / UTR execution. Ensure data is collected to complete reports on executed MCU/UTR work. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the organization’s JSA, LOTO, EHS and associated policies/procedures. Report errors, violations, incidents, or problems immediately using GE reporting systems. Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved, and answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Project Teams as required. Make a conformance or non-conformance decision upon completion of inspections and report as required to MCU lead/FPM/CMS. Form part of a roster to work weekends and nights if required or as directed by management. Perform high voltage switching operations according to site procedures as required. Be familiar with and follow all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to their job and report any injuries, spills, near misses or related incidents and any concerns about possible violations of this policy. Cooperate with GE investigations and EHS audits, and call attention to fellow employees of unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and practices to their Manager, Supervisor, and EHS Manager/Coordinator. Complete all required EHS Training.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or ITI in Mechanical or Electrical from an accredited college or university
• More than 05 years’ experience with minimum of 3 years in Wind Energy field
• Proficient in fault finding electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment, or within their specialized area of expertise. Experience in overall wind farm operations and maintenance, installation, and heavy lift main component exchange. Skilled in using MS Office software tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. Analytical & data manipulation/mining skills ... advanced Excel skills (pivot tables), Access, Tableau, etc.
