Job summary

Siemens Energy India Limited is seeking a seasoned Materials Engineer/Metallurgist to support our global gas turbine and power generation activities. The role focuses on metallic materials selection, supplier qualification, and process support across electrical generator applications.

Ideal candidates will have 10+ years in materials engineering with physical metallurgy, strong data analysis skills, and the ability to travel about 20%.

Responsibilities

• Provide metallurgical support for supplier qualifications and material substitutions.
• Support metallic materials processes for electrical generator applications.
• Maintain material specifications and drawings, including electrical steel and alloys.
• Assist design teams in selecting metallic materials for generator applications.
• Evaluate material suppliers and perform risk assessments (FMEA).
• Prepare engineering reports on metallic materials performance and data analyses.

A Snapshot of Your Day

Materials Engineer /Metallurgist will support a global organization responsible for metallic materials that are used in large turbine generator for the global energy market. Focus areas include reviewing material specifications from suppliers, providing metallurgical support for supply chain management, new apparatus and service production support and product definition. In this role, you will provide support to more experienced materials engineers and will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the performance requirements of materials used in large power generation products. You will also help support the qualifications of new materials and suppliers of materials as well as provide technical guidance on material selections and substitutions. Your primary focus will be on metallic materials.

How You'll Make an Impact (Gas Turbine, R& D, India)

• Provide Metallurgical support for Supplier qualifications including reviews of suppliers, supplier documentations, and analysis of material substitution requests from suppliers.
• Support the implementation of metallic materials and related processes for use in electrical generator applications.
• Support the maintenance of material or process specifications and product drawings as needed, including but not limited to electrical steel, electrical steel coatings and various Copper and Aluminum alloys.
• Support component designers in the selection of metallic materials for applications in electrical generators.
• Support evaluation and/or qualification of material suppliers.
• Support technical risk evaluation through Risk-Reviews and FMEA's.
• Communicate working results to line manager.
• Support department interfaces with internal partners.
• Prepare Engineering reports related to metallic materials performance.
• Perform data analysis on material properties to enhance product performance.
• Write and upgrade specifications for materials and related processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Conduct failure analyses and root cause investigations to drive continuous improvement in materials and processes.

What You Bring

• Must have a solid understanding of Materials Engineering with an emphasis on physical metallurgy with 10+ years of experience working as a metallurgist related to industrial or energy related equipment.
• Project Management training and experience is a plus.
• Aptitude and interest in continuous improvement in product and process.
• Able to work independently and be self-directed.
• Easily able to work with colleagues and management.
• You must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Engineering, with a concentration in physical metallurgy, and 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Willing to travel (approximately 20%).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong data analysis skills.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime and off-shift hours as needed to support emergent projects while working in either an office environment or in a factory environment.
