Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking a Material Science Engineer with 3-10 years of experience to evaluate, select, and qualify aerospace-grade materials for complex programs. Job description

We are looking for Material Science Engineer,

Experience: 3-10 years

  • Strong knowledge of metallic and non-metallic materials, including aerospace-grade alloys, composites, polymers, coatings, and heat treatment processes.
  • Experience in material selection, specification review, and material compliance for aerospace or manufacturing industries.
  • Ability to evaluate supplier capabilities related to materials, manufacturing processes, testing, and qualification requirements.
  • Experience in supply chain material risk assessment, obsolescence management, and alternate material qualification.
  • Knowledge of material standards such as ASTM, AMS, ISO, BS, DIN, and aerospace material specifications.
  • Experience supporting supplier development, supplier audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of material certification requirements, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to review material test reports, non-conformance reports, and root cause analyses.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess material performance, manufacturing feasibility, and cost optimization opportunities.
  • Experience collaborating with design, manufacturing, procurement, quality, and supplier teams.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives, REACH, RoHS, conflict minerals, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem solving skills
Good-to-Have
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing materials and emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience in material qualification and validation for new product introduction (NPI) programs.
  • Familiarity with PPAP, APQP, FAIR, PFMEA, and supplier quality processes.
  • Exposure to material lifecycle management, digital thread, and PLM systems.
  • Understanding of global supply chain operations, sourcing strategies, and inventory optimization.
Software/Other Skill
  • ASNT/PCN/NAS 410 NDT Level II Certification (UT, RT, PT, MT, ET) with experience in inspection techniques, defect interpretation, and supplier qualification activities.
  • Teamcenter, SAP, PLM systems, MS Excel (Advanced), Power BI, Minitab, and Material Databases (Granta MI or equivalent).
  • Supplier Quality Management, Procurement Processes, Data Analytics, Statistical Analysis, and Technical Documentation.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, material testing methods, laboratory reports, and certification requirements.
  • Domain Experience: Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing, or Supply Chain Engineering.
