Manufacturing Engineer 3 – Lam Research (Bengaluru, Karnataka, India)
Overview
Lam Research is a leading global manufacturer of capital equipment used to produce edge‑semiconductors. The Global Operations Group integrates information systems, facilities, supply chain, logistics, and high‑volume manufacturing to drive our global business operations. The role reports to the head of Cost Performance Engineering (CPE) within the LIGO (Lam India Global Operations) organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop accurate should‑cost models for metal machining/sheet metal components used in wafer‑fabrication equipment.
- Identify cost‑improvement opportunities, assess product feasibility, and drive cost avoidance.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Materials Program Management (MPM), Supplier Business Management (SBM), Supplier Engineering & Technology (SET), and other cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Execute should‑cost analyses for large and complex metal machined parts and assemblies.
- Act as an enabler to drive down component/assembly cost through design for manufacturability and technical cost validation.
- Serve as a technical process expert for complex challenges across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, product management, and suppliers.
- Develop and execute plans to qualify suppliers for new product introduction and timely, cost‑effective sourcing.
- Participate in design reviews, provide value‑addition suggestions, and engage with cross‑functional teams to improve cost/quality.
- Plan and execute vendor visits to validate cost models.
- Evaluate new product needs, contribute to technology roadmaps, and support overall technology strategy.
- Deliver results for cost avoidance and cost reduction projects and mentor junior costing engineers.
Who We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in production, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
- 5–8 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, particularly metal machining or sheet‑metal.
- Proficiency in should‑costing based on manufacturing methods, cycle time, materials, labor, overhead, and other cost drivers.
- In‑depth shop‑floor knowledge of metal machining processes, alternative manufacturing methods, and advanced materials.
- Hands‑on experience with casting, forging, extrusion, machining, EDM, bonding, joining, additive manufacturing, and secondary operations such as heat treatment and surface coating.
- Strong knowledge of materials (Al alloys, steel grades, nickel), GD&T, metrology, and tolerance handling.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of semiconductor/wafer fabrication equipment industry.
- Experience with costing tools and CAD applications (NX, Creo).
- Exposure to supplier management, negotiation, and value‑engineering concepts.
- Familiarity with project‑management tools (MS Project).
