Job summary

TIH is seeking a seasoned leader to head the travel insurance portfolio, driving development, implementation and ongoing enhancements aligned with customer needs and business goals.

The role focuses on portfolio growth, profitability, product performance, stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance, ensuring competitive and sustainable insurance solutions across the Travel product line.

Qualifications

  • Must have a tertiary qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Tourism, Travel Management, or related field.
  • FAIS RE5 and Short-Term Insurance qualification advantageous.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Travel Insurance product leadership, underwriting, pricing, claims, and partner management.

Job Purpose: To lead and manage the travel insurance portfolio through the development, implementation and continuous enhancement of products and services that meet customer needs and business objectives. This role is accountable for portfolio growth, profitability, product performance, stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance. Responsible for identifying market trends, driving strategic initiatives, managing product lifecycle activities and ensuring the delivery of competitive and sustainable travel insurance solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Brand: Oversee a particular area, product, or service within the larger brand strategy. Involves managing development and delivery.
  • Marketing: Oversee a particular area, product, or service within the larger marketing strategy. Involves managing development and delivery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Identify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Offering Technical support to operational areas of the business i.e. Sales and Operations.
  • Coordinate and help facilitate the success of the Travel Profit & Loss.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal Key stakeholders including Pricing, Analytics, IT and Marketing.
  • Product and Solution Development: Responsible for managing the definition, development and delivery of a significant product or service within the product development and engineering program, ensuring alignment with customer requirements. Develop new ideas that will enhance the performance of the product. Work with Senior Management to identify new opportunities for the business.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Make authoritative recommendations that have a significant impact on the business over the short and long term. Recommendations could be technical or professional in nature. Monitoring financial performance of the Travel product and work with VAPS Senior Management to improve performance as required.
  • Monitor Industry developments to ensure products and services stay fit for purpose. Evaluate product performance analysis with appropriate recommendation where required for Operations.
  • Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues. Attend relationship meetings with the Product UMA to explore and influence new ideas to enhance the Travel offering and to resolve any issues.
  • Compliance: Identify shortcomings in compliance processes, systems, and procedures, and suggest and implement appropriate improvements. Work is focused on an assigned unit or discipline. Ensure the Travel product meets regulatory requirements and TCF principles, including claims experience and complaints to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
  • Insights and Reporting: Prepare and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports. Review and report on the voice of the customer to ensure that the product continues to meet customer’s expectations.
Education
  • Grade 12 / SAQA Accredited Equivalent (Essential)
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Tourism, Travel Management, or a related field (Essential)
  • FAIS Regulatory Examination (RE5) and applicable Short-Term Insurance Qualification (Advantageous)
Experience
  • 5 or more years’ experience leading and managing Travel Insurance products, with demonstrated expertise across product development, underwriting, pricing, claims, travel assistance services, and partner management (Essential)
  • Experience within the Insurance or Financial Services Industry, with exposure to strategic partnerships, distribution management, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and industry standards and customer value proposition development (Advantageous)
