Role Mix: 60% Indirect Tax | 40% Direct Tax
About the Role:
AM – Taxation to manage and strengthen the organisation’s tax compliance, advisory, reporting, and risk-management activities.
The role will have a primary focus on Indirect Taxation (60%), with responsibility for Direct Taxation (40%). The ideal candidate should have strong hands‑on experience in GST and direct tax matters, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work closely with Finance, Business, Legal, and other cross‑functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Indirect Taxation – 60%:
- – Own end-to-end GST compliance across the organisation, including GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9/9C and other applicable returns.
- – Review GST workings, reconciliations, tax positions, and input tax credit (ITC).
- – Drive GSTR-2B vs books/ITC reconciliation and ensure timely resolution of mismatches.
- – Handle GST audits, departmental notices, assessments, investigations, and related correspondence.
- – Provide GST advisory on business transactions, contracts, new products, pricing, and business models.
- – Evaluate GST implications of inter‑state transactions, e‑commerce transactions, services, and supply‑chain arrangements.
- – Monitor changes in GST law, notifications, circulars, and judicial developments and assess their impact on the business.
- – Coordinate with external consultants and tax authorities wherever required.
- – Identify GST risks and implement appropriate controls to ensure compliance.
- – Support tax planning and optimisation opportunities within the applicable legal framework.
Direct Taxation – 40%:
- – Manage corporate income‑tax compliance, including advance tax, TDS/TCS, tax audit, and income‑tax return processes.
- – Review TDS/TCS applicability, deductions, reconciliations, returns, and related compliance.
- – Coordinate with auditors and external tax advisors for tax audit and income‑tax return matters.
- – Assist with income‑tax assessments, notices, appeals, and litigation‑related matters.
- – Support preparation/review of tax provisions and tax‑related disclosures for financial reporting.
- – Analyse direct‑tax implications of business transactions, contracts, and restructuring initiatives.
- – Monitor changes in the Income‑tax Act, rules, circulars, notifications, and relevant judicial decisions.
- – Identify direct‑tax risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Cross‑Functional Responsibilities:
- – Partner with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Procurement, Business, and Operations teams on tax‑related matters.
- – Develop and maintain tax SOPs, checklists, controls, and documentation.
- – Lead automation and process‑improvement initiatives within the taxation function.
- – Prepare tax MIS, dashboards, and management updates covering compliance status, exposures, notices, and key tax risks.
- – Support internal and statutory audits and provide timely responses to audit queries.
- – Ensure timely escalation of significant tax risks and potential exposures to senior management.
Candidate Profile:
Mandatory Qualifications:
- – Chartered Accountant (CA) – qualified in the 1st attempt.
- – Only candidates who have cleared CA in the first attempt will be considered.
- – 5 – 8 years of relevant post‑qualification experience.
- – Strong hands‑on experience in GST/Indirect Taxation and Corporate Direct Taxation.
- – Experience in a corporate, Big 4, tax consulting, e‑commerce, retail, FMCG, or technology environment would be relevant.
Preferred Skills:
- – Strong knowledge of GST and Indian Direct Tax laws.
- – Good understanding of tax accounting and financial reporting.
- – Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- – Ability to interpret tax laws and translate them into practical business advice.
- – Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- – Strong command of MS Excel; experience with ERP/tax technology tools is an advantage.
- – Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
