Job summary

Coats Group plc in Ambasamudram seeks a Manager - Spinning to lead end-to-end spinning operations, ensuring yarn quality, machine efficiency and safety compliance. The role drives KPI targets, process improvements and team development across the spinning lines.

You will coordinate with QA and Maintenance, optimize material flow, and sustain lean waste reduction initiatives, while maintaining shift planning and disciplined operations.

Qualifications

  • Extensive spinning and end-to-end process knowledge.
  • Experience in team handling and KPI management.
  • Lean Six Sigma training or similar methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and control all spinning activities to meet KPI targets.
  • Optimize machine utilization and running efficiency across spinning lines.
  • Monitor material flow from blow room to ring frame and ensure quality.
  • Lead skill development through training sessions for operators and supervisors.
  • Drive improvements in breakage, doffing time and waste reduction.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure energy usage is monitored and cost-effective.
  • Maintain shift plans and manpower allocation.

Job description

Job Title: Manager - Spinning
Location:Ambasamudram

Role Purpose:

To lead, manage, and optimize the end-to-end spinning operations, ensuring consistent yarn quality, maximum machine efficiency, cost control, safety compliance, and continuous improvement across the department.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Production & Operations Management
  • Plan, organize, and control all spinning activities to achieve targeted RKM, CSP, U%, and other yarn quality KPIs.
  • Ensure optimum machine utilization, running efficiency, and production per spindle.
  • Monitor and control material flow from blow room to ring frame, including comber and speed frame operations.
  • Ensure perfect implementation of mixing, bale management, and fibre selection based on customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate shift planning and manpower allocation for smooth operations.
  • Quality Management
  • Organize and conduct in-house training sessions for operators, Supervisors and staff.
  • Continuously monitor Uster reports, yarn testing, and in-process quality checks.
  • Ensure strict adherence to process parameters including TPI, draft settings, traveller selection, humidity levels, and waste management.
  • Analyse quality variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate closely with QA and Maintenance teams for quality assurance and complaint reduction.
  • Machine & Process Optimization
  • Drive improvements in breakage rate, pneumafil suction, doffing time, and end-break reduction.
  • Monitor machine performance (Card, draw frame, RSB, Speed Frame, Ring Frame, Auto Cone) and ensure timely interventions.
  • Implement new technologies, automation tools, and process modernization to improve productivity.
  • People Management
  • Lead and mentor shift supervisors, fitters, and operators.
  • Conduct regular skill-based training (piecing techniques, machine settings, housekeeping, doffing).
  • Ensure workforce discipline, motivation, and continuous performance improvement.
  • Maintenance Coordination
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure minimum downtime by coordinating for critical spares, consumables, and machine overhauls.
  • Control hard waste, soft waste, and pneumafil waste, keeping within norms.
  • Monitor energy consumption and collaborate on energy-saving initiatives.
  • Drive cost-effective operation through process optimization and reduced material wastage.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Technology or related field.
  • Minimum 8 to 15 years’ experience in spinning, full process knowledge.
  • Good experience into team handling and KPI management.
  • PG / MBA / Certifications.
  • Advanced Training Capability ERP, Lean Six Sigma.
